For lovers of peace and quiet, representatives of this breed are unlikely to suit, these cats are not just sociable, they can rightfully be called chatty. Having brought such a pet into the house, you should be prepared for the fact that your friend will meow, purr, purr and emit other sound signals throughout the day, they have a huge "vocabulary". And due to the natural stubbornness of Serengeti cat, you are unlikely to be able to make her shut up even a little, such a live cat radio. Some owners of cats of this breed assure that their unusual pets can speak in the literal sense of the word, for example, the word "mother" in syllables.

These seals are by nature very active and mobile, and although there is not a single gene from wild animals in their genetic material, their fearlessness is sometimes striking. They know how to stand up for themselves, and it doesn't matter who their opponent is, even if a big dog will scare them. These pets have very well developed hunting abilities, so the owners of parrots and rodents should worry, as their cohabitation with the Serengeti cat, most likely, could end in disaster. But with another cat, the California purr can become best friends, they can play together, take care of each other, and do their little pranks.

Serengeti cats are distinguished by a special affection for humans, they do not tolerate being alone very badly. It can be said about these animals that there are too many of them. Such a pet will follow you on your heels and urgently demand attention. This fluffy will happily purr on your lap or play with you, due to his natural intelligence, these felines can be taught many tricks, but this is possible only if the animal does not resist, to force Serengeti cat to do, then what she does not desires are simply impossible.

Serengeti health

In general, these cats by nature have received quite good health and excellent natural immunity. Since this breed was bred relatively recently, there is simply little or no evidence of hereditary diseases.

The only problem that serengeti cats are prone to is urolithiasis. It is important to know that in females this disease occurs almost three times more often than in cats.

Urolithiasis is a pathology that does not immediately make itself felt, small, insignificant stones in the kidneys will not show a bunch of symptoms. Usually, the disease begins with lightning speed, the animal's general weakness increases in a matter of minutes and strength leaves it. But there are some warning signs, noticing which, it is better to immediately seek medical help. Among them, the following can be observed:

  • your serengiti cannot relieve himself for a long time, when repeatedly visiting the tray;
  • urinary incontinence - this is usually manifested by the fact that your litter-trained companion urinates in any place convenient for him;
  • kitten Serengeti cat meows pitifully, licking the opening of the urethral canal.

If your furry friend looks healthy, vigorous and active, you shouldn't assume that he doesn't need veterinarian visits - as he does. Timely vaccinations, periodic medical examinations, balanced nutrition are the key to the health and longevity of your pet.

The average lifespan of Serengeti cats is 10–12 years.

Keeping serengeti cats

Despite the fact that cats of this breed are very unusual and rather rare, caring for them is not fraught with anything complicated. Serengeti cat will not require anything from you, well, perhaps a little food and your attention, and, believe me, this will be enough for them.

  1. Space and leisure. The Serengeti is a cat breed that has an incredible love of freedom and in no case should they be too restrictive. These purrs should have access to every corner in your apartment, they cannot stand closed doors. Your pet will be incredibly happy for walks in the fresh air, it is best to walk with him on a leash, to which the cat should be taught from early childhood. Letting go on serengeti for a walk alone is not recommended, if you do not want to lose your friend, these cats, due to their curiosity, can go quite far from home. Representatives of Serengeti cat are very fond of climbing all sorts of elevations, so it is better not to store any fragile objects on cabinets and on the refrigerator, rest assured, as soon as the cat gets to them, he will have a desire to touch everything with his paws and it is not even time for a figurine or a vase to fly down … It is also not advisable to leave the wires of electrical devices in places accessible to the animal, it, of course, will not get entangled in them, but it can easily gnaw through the wire, which is fraught with not the most pleasant consequences. Do not forget about domestic plants, some of them can be poisonous to the feline body. These include: azalea, aloe, dieffenbachia, anthurium, begonia, jasmine gardenia, dracaena, ivy, boxwood, allamanda, pachypodium and many others. Therefore, it is better to limit the animal's access to indoor plants, it will be better for both the cat and your green decorations. Serengeti cats love to rest in the master's bed, but it will be better if you equip your pet with his personal sleeping place, maybe he will not be there as often as on the sofa, but due to his independence, such a "cat bed" necessary. You also need to take care of what your pet will do during your absence. It is good to leave him a few toys, this can be a ball, toys with a winding mechanism, as well as all kinds of climbing devices and tunnels. A cat can do without such entertainment, but be sure, he will figure out what to do with himself, but whether you like it is another matter.
  2. Hair care. "Fur coat" Serengeti cat does not need any special care. In order for your cat to always look well-groomed and beautiful, it will be enough to bathe him once every one and a half to two months. It is better to accustom the animal to this procedure, which the pets of this breed do not like very much, from early childhood, thus, you can at least slightly reduce the cat's fear of water. As for combing, it will be enough for serengeti wool to do it once or twice a week, during the shedding period it is better to increase the frequency of the procedure up to once a day. These cats are very sensitive to any discomfort, including during combing, on this basis, it is better for them to choose soft brushes, without sharp teeth and even edges.
  3. Ear care. You should clean your Serengeti cat's ears about twice a month, but remember that the frequency of hygiene procedures is an extremely individual matter, since each individual individual accumulates earwax in different quantities and for a different period of time. It is recommended that you inspect your four-legged friend's ears every week and, as they become dirty, clean them with cotton swabs. As an auxiliary substance, it is better to give preference to products that are sold in veterinary pharmacies, since the serengeti's skin is very sensitive and they may have an allergic reaction to a regular cream or liquid paraffin.
  4. Eye care. For the purpose of disinfection, it is necessary to wipe your pet's eyes with cotton pads soaked in herbal decoction. This should be done at least once a week.
  5. Tray training. Serengeti cat are very smart and quickly understand what they want from them, showing them the tray. And if you also use liquid for training cats to the toilet, then the likelihood that your pet will relieve itself in the wrong place is reduced to zero.
  6. Nutrition. Such cats do not go over food, but you should not get carried away with unnecessary treats, serengeti are very fond of eating and the problem of excess weight is not alien to them. As the main food for such a pet, it is better to give preference to ready-made industrial premium or super-premium food. If you decide to feed your cat with homemade products, then you should know that lean meat should be the main product in their diet, preferably veal, chicken or turkey. In addition, Serengeti cat can be fed with fermented milk products, cereals, chicken eggs, offal and vegetables. In no case should you offer your cat fish, milk and food from your dinner table, especially fatty, salty and sweet foods, their body is not adapted to digest these foods.

Also, do not forget about additional vitamin complexes, the only thing that is needed is, before buying any useful supplements, you should show your purr to the veterinarian so that he selects the drugs necessary for the animal and, accordingly, their dosages.
