Plastic plumbing has a rather complex structure, consisting of pipes and fittings for their connection. In its finished form, the system is a branched route from the water source to the places of use. When assembling it, it is necessary to take into account the properties of all elements and the rules for their fastening.

Home plumbing systems use pipes made of polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, polyethylene, metal-plastic … Materials have a different chemical composition, so their properties and field of application are different. The choice of blanks depends on many factors, in particular, the working fluid pressure and temperature, diameter, etc. It is also necessary to take into account the operating conditions and the environment on which the method of joining the cuts depends.

  • Corners … Such parts are bent at an angle of 45-90 degrees. Used to change the direction of the track. Indispensable when working with rigid pipes (for example, polypropylene). Mixers are often attached to them.

  • Decide on the method of pipe routing - tee or collector. In the first case, the water intake points are connected in series, one after the other. This allows you to reduce the number of products, but at each point the water consumption will be different. The farther from the main line, the lower the pressure. The collector method involves the use of a special distribution unit, which ensures the same water flow in any tap. It can be bought ready-made in a hardware store. But the number of pipes in the structure in this case will increase.
  • Measure the distances between all objects of interest to you and plot them on the drawing.
  • Think over your plans for the future. You may want to install new hardware after a while. Therefore, leave the leads in the line, which are temporarily muffled. Such foresight will allow avoiding the alteration of the plastic water supply system. joints are often made one-piece.

  • Choose a method of fixing the workpieces to each other, which depends on the material used. Reinforced-plastic products are connected using metal fittings and rubber gaskets. Therefore, such joints should not be sewn into the walls. Other types of pipes are fixed to each other by soldering or gluing.
  • Prepare tools for working with plastic products. A special soldering iron is needed for welding polypropylene pipes. The specially designed scissors will cut thin-walled products without damaging the surface. If the pipeline has a small number of branches, it is unprofitable to buy scissors, so use the tools at hand - a hacksaw for metal or a well-sharpened knife. Although the assembly of a plastic water supply system requires special tools, the cost of purchasing them will still pay off with the self-assembly of the structure.

To collect the water supply, follow these steps:

  • Assemble the soldering machine according to the attached instructions. Find out to what temperature you need to heat it in order to solder workpieces of this type.
  • Install a nozzle in it, corresponding to the diameter of the pieces to be joined.
  • Clean the edges of the cuts from dirt. Make sure the ends are straight.
  • Turn on the machine and wait for the nozzle to heat up. Wear protective gloves before connecting the plastic plumbing pipes to avoid scalding.
  • Install the pipe and fitting at the same time into the nozzle and wait for them to heat up (usually 5-25 seconds). The time depends on the power of the soldering iron and the size of the product.
  • Remove the parts from the attachment and insert the cut into the hole in the connector.

  • Repeat the operation to connect the second pipe to the fitting. Perform the work carefully and constantly monitor the quality of the welding.
  • Angles and tees are attached in a similar way.

Do-it-yourself installation of plastic pipes for water supply by gluing adjacent pieces is performed as follows:

  • Cut the blanks in accordance with the developed plumbing diagram. Cut the products with special scissors for plastic pipes, which will provide smooth edges without burrs.
  • Remove the chamfer at the ends of the products.
  • Assemble the dummy plumbing (no glue) with fittings.
  • Mark the relative position of the parts of the plumbing, as well as mark the depth of entry of the pipes into the fittings.
  • Disassemble the structure.
  • Sand the surfaces to be connected to make them roughened and remove dust and dirt.
  • Wipe the surfaces with the cleaner that comes with the adhesive. The liquid will degrease and soften the plastic.
  • Apply glue: on the inner layer of the socket - in a thin layer, on the pipe surface - in a thick one.
  • Install the pipe with its cylindrical part into the socket (or fitting) until it stops, guided by the marks on the surface, made during the prototype assembly.
  • Keep the products stationary for at least 15 seconds. After drying, remove the glue that has come out with a napkin.
  • The structure can be moved no earlier than after 10-15 minutes.

Note! Testing the connection is allowed after 24 hours.

When installing water pipelines from metal-plastic pipes, adjacent parts are attached to each other in two ways: compression and using press fittings. Each of them has its own advantages.

In the first case, the connection will be detachable, which allows the system to be disassembled if necessary. In plumbing systems, the compressor method is used both for fixing metal-plastic pipes to other types of products (for example, to a rubber hose), and for the joint of reinforced products. But over time, a leak may appear in the connector.

The connection with a press fitting is more reliable, but special equipment is required for installation, and the joint is one-piece. Below is the sequence of work when installing pipelines in both ways.

Docking of pipes using the compressor method is performed as follows:

  • Cut the blanks according to the developed scheme.
  • Make a 1x45 degree chamfer at their ends.
  • Install a nut and ferrule on one pipe.
  • Press the fitting into the second item until it stops in the limiter.
  • Screw the nut onto the union, first by hand and then with a wrench. Do not apply too much force to avoid damaging the threads.

The connection of pipes with press fittings is as follows:

  • Install the coupling on the segment.
  • Flare and strip it with an expander.
  • Slide the press fitting onto the sleeve and push it all the way onto the pipe.
  • Clamp the parts with a hand press.
  • Fasten all cuts of the plumbing in the same way.

When determining the cost of assembling the line, all work related to its arrangement is taken into account. The following factors affect the price of installing plastic pipes for water supply:

  • Type of distribution of water pipes - collector or tee. Installation of collector wiring will be more expensive, because to create it, you will need more pipes than in a tee. Accordingly, there will also be more joints.
  • Installation method - open or closed. In the first case, the pipes are fixed over the walls with clamps. With the closed method, they fit into grooves (grooves in the walls), which must be completed in advance. Therefore, a closed method of installing plastic pipes is more expensive than an open one.
  • To pass pipes through walls, holes of the appropriate diameter must be made. The more holes you have to make and the stronger the wall material, the more you will have to pay.
  • The large number of turns that are performed with the corners increases the installation time and increases the price.
  • The cost of the work is influenced by the ability of one person to assemble a part of the route separately, in a convenient place. Assistant services will also have to be paid.
  • Installation of plastic pipes for water supply with external reinforcement is more expensive due to the need to remove the braid with a special tool.
  • The cost of installing plastic pipes per 1 meter is influenced by the quality of the products. If the pipes and fittings have a deviation in quality (elliptical holes, diameters do not correspond to each other, etc.), the craftsman will have to spend a lot of time to get a high-quality joint.   • The cost of a hot water supply system is more expensive due to the presence of a larger number of joints than in a cold line - it contains thermal expansion compensators.
  • Polyethylene pipes are more difficult to join than other materials due to thin walls and poor adhesion. Therefore, the foreman will have to work very carefully and slowly, which reduces his productivity and increases the cost of the work.
