The corrugated pipe for external sewage is a two-layer product, in which the upper layer is ribbed, in the form of an accordion, and the inner one is smooth. The ribs increase the flexibility of the line and allow it to bend easily without loss of strength. The smooth interior does not trap dirt and prevents sewer clogging. For connection with other pipes, special expanded or cylindrical sections are provided at the ends of the product, depending on the pipe brand.

The outer layer performs protective functions, and the rib stiffness of the flexible pipe depends on it. This value is the main parameter of the product and shows the ability of the line to withstand static and dynamic loads. The stiffness class depends on the thickness of the ribs and is controlled at the pipe manufacturing stage. It defines the maximum burial depth of the system or the permissible mechanical load on it. Stiffness is designated by the letters SN and is measured in kN / m2… Corrugated pipes are manufactured with stiffness SN2, SN4, SN8, SN10, SN16, SN32. For sewage, it is allowed to use products with SN4-SN16, but most often pipes with SN6-SN8 are used.

Flexible products are extruded from high-strength plastic and coated with a special substance to improve performance. Stores sell blanks made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), low-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP). Recommended dimensions of corrugated pipes for sewerage: inner diameter - 110-250 mm, length - at least 6 m. The longer the product, the fewer joints on the route and the more reliable the system.

Corrugated pipes may be cleaned chemically and hydrodynamically. The first is used to prevent blockages, the second is most often used to remove blockages or deposits on the walls. Mechanical devices can damage the quality inner surface and are therefore not recommended for cleaning.

The dependence of the depth of burial in the ground of the line on the stiffness of the corrugated pipe for external sewage and the load on it is shown in the table:

Corrugated pipes for outdoor sewerage are classified by the number of layers in their structure and the brand of plastic from which they are made. Samples can be single-layer or double-layer.

Single-layer products outside the building are rarely used, only as additional protection for a smooth-walled pipe. Their main purpose is not related to drainage - they are used in the installation of cable routes.

To easily determine the parameters of the pipe, manufacturers have introduced special designations and colors. Flexible products for outdoor sewerage are easy to distinguish from pipes for other purposes. Outside, the surface is painted orange or black, inside they are light. Corrugated pipes for internal sewerage outside and inside are white. Blue products are for electrical cables.

All products are marked with an alphanumeric designation, which is applied by color printing along the axis or on the label.

Let us consider the features of decoding the designation of goods using the example of the KORSIS pipe DN / OD P 200 SN6 TU 2248-001-73011750-2005:

  • "Korsis" is the name of the trade mark.

Pros and cons of corrugated pipes for outdoor sewerage

Corrugated pipe for outdoor sewerage
Corrugated pipe for outdoor sewerage

Two-layer corrugated pipes for outdoor sewerage have the following advantages:

  • They do not react with aggressive chemical elements that are always present in sewage and in the ground.
  • They have high strength and low surface wear. They can withstand high static loads (from embankments) and dynamic (from traffic).
  • Safe for the environment.
  • The highway is easy to maintain.
  • For pipes made of plastic, grounding is not required, since products are immune to stray currents. Traditional steel and cast iron sewer systems located next to cable runs are aging rapidly and need to be replaced.
  • The price of a corrugated pipe for sewage is available to consumers with any income level.
  • Due to the flexibility to change the direction of the line, no fittings are required. Flexible products allow you to bypass obstacles and create tracks of any complexity.
  • Products are not destroyed by seasonal soil movement.
  • The pipes are white inside, which makes it possible to monitor the state of the highway using a television inspection.
  • The service life of corrugated pipes for external sewerage reaches 50 years.
  • The track is assembled without the involvement of special equipment.
  • The inner surface is very smooth and does not retain impurities even at small slope angles of the track and is rarely clogged.
  • The products weigh a little, which is convenient for transportation and installation. They are ten times lighter than their metal counterparts while maintaining high rigidity.
  • A track made of flexible elements can be easily repaired.
  • The pipes can be connected to any kind of storage.
  • Corrugated plastic pipes for outdoor sewerage are resistant to the microenvironment, which is formed as a result of the vital activity of microorganisms. The decomposition of sewage without oxygen becomes the cause of the appearance of an aggressive acidic environment that destroys concrete and metal structures, but not plastic ones.

Of the disadvantages of corrugated pipes for external sewage, the following can be distinguished:

  • Most products are afraid of ultraviolet radiation, so they should not be laid on the surface of the earth.
  • Only a few models retain their durability in cold weather.
  • Many corrugated pipes are afraid of fire.

Material of corrugated pipes for outdoor sewerage

To choose the right product, you need to know the characteristics of corrugated pipes and the area of application. Consider the features of products from various types of plastic.

Corrugated PVC pipes for outdoor sewerage

Corrugated PVC pipes for outdoor sewerage

PVC products are very durable, which allows the system to be buried deeply. They can be laid on the surface of the ground, since they are not afraid of ultraviolet radiation and have excellent wear resistance.

The main characteristics of corrugated PVC pipes for outdoor sewerage are given in the table:

Options Meaning
Lifetime Over 50 years
Optimum operating temperature Up to + 40 ° С
Minimum operating temperature Up to -10 ° С
Relative linear expansion 6x10-5
Ultimate tensile load, MPa 30-50
Influence of ultraviolet radiation Color change possible
Chemical and biological resistance Resilient
Density, g / cm3 1, 36-1, 43

Polyvinyl chloride corrugated pipes for outdoor sewerage are divided into several types, which have their own field of application depending on the composition of the soil and the amount of drained waste:

  • Lungs … Used in areas with a large number of plants: lawns, vegetable gardens, flower beds, etc. They are mounted on the surface of the ground or at shallow depths. Products are characterized by low resistance to mechanical stress. The maximum load on pipes should not exceed 2 kN / m2… Stiffness class - SN
  • Light heavyweight … Capable of withstanding an average load of 4 kN / m2… Stiffness class - SN These products are used for collecting underground sewerage systems. They can be laid in areas with sparse traffic or under footpaths.
  • Heavy … Very strong pipes that can withstand heavy loads - more than 8 kN / m2… Marked with the designation SN8 and higher. Used for the construction of sewers under roads. The minimum burial depth is 8 m. They are rarely used in the private sector. The walls of heavy pipes are 25% thicker than those of light-heavy pipes.

The outer layers of corrugated PVC pipes for sewage, which are allowed to be laid on the ground surface, are painted black. They are not afraid of ultraviolet radiation, but they can lose color. Corrugated PVC products are easy to cut and assemble. They are produced without sockets. Pipes have one drawback - they burst in frost or become brittle. Therefore, in the northern regions, PVC pipes are not laid on the surface.

Corrugated polypropylene pipes for outdoor sewerage

It is recommended to bury corrugated polypropylene sewer pipes in the ground with a large amount of sand and gravel. They are the most rigid of plastic products, therefore, the mains are allowed to deviate from a straight line only by a small angle.

The main characteristics of corrugated polypropylene pipes for sewage are shown in the table:

Options Meaning
Lifetime Over 50 years
Optimum operating temperature Up to + 95 ° С
Minimum operating temperature no restrictions
Relative linear expansion 12x10-5
Ultimate tensile load, MPa 28-36
Influence of ultraviolet radiation Loss of strength
Chemical and biological resistance Resilient
Density, g / cm3 0, 90-0.94

Corrugated polypropylene sewer pipes can be operated in any cold weather without losing strength. No other similar products can withstand temperatures below -20 degrees. Ring stiffness of PP pipes - not less than 10 kN / m2… They have high abrasion resistance and are not damaged by drains, which contain a large amount of solid particles. The products will withstand any acids and alkalis present in the soil or generated in the system.

The pipes are easily assembled and repaired using standard couplings and inserts. When installing corrugated polypropylene sewer pipes, it is necessary to control the flatness of the substrate under the main line, otherwise they may burst under load.

You will need fittings to assemble the line. They have various shapes and purposes: tees, protective couplings for passing through reinforced concrete, repair couplings, adapters for connecting to workpieces made of another material, etc.

Corrugated polypropylene sewer pipes are manufactured with a fixed length of 6 m. Stiffness classes: SN6, SN8, SN10, SN16.

Products of this type have high precision in the manufacture of mating surfaces, so their connection is reliable and tight.

LDPE corrugated pipes

Corrugated polyethylene pipes for outdoor sewerage
Corrugated polyethylene pipes for outdoor sewerage

Corrugated pipes for sewage from low-pressure polyethylene (LPP) are the most flexible of such products. They are less demanding on the state of the substrate for the backbone, they can change the direction of the route to any angle.

The characteristics of corrugated polyethylene sewer pipes are given in the table:

Options Meaning
Lifetime Over 50 years
Optimum operating temperature Up to + 40 ° С
Minimum operating temperature Up to -20 ° С
Relative linear expansion 14x10-5
Ultimate tensile load, MPa 20-38
Influence of ultraviolet radiation Loss of strength
Chemical and biological resistance Resilient
Density, g / cm3 0, 948-0, 965

The stiffness class is SN4-16, but in the private sector, SN6 and SN8 are enough. In other words, pipes can be buried to a depth of 6 and 8 m, respectively. The minimum laying depth is 1 m. Products are distinguished by high mechanical strength at low temperatures, but they are afraid of high temperatures. They cannot be used to drain hot drains, for example, from a bath. They are also afraid of ultraviolet radiation. Polyethylene products stretch easily, so they do not collapse if the drains freeze, but the material becomes brittle in very strong cold. After the installation of corrugated HDPE pipes, the sewerage, buried in the ground, does not require insulation. Otherwise, the properties of HDPE products are similar to PVC pipes.

To assemble the route, a bell is provided at one end of the pipe, and a cylindrical section at the other. To connect, insert the cylindrical part into the extended part and slide it until it stops. There are also products without sockets. In this case, the workpieces are joined by butt welding using a special apparatus.

How to make an external sewerage system from corrugated pipes?

Installation of corrugated pipes for outdoor sewerage
Installation of corrugated pipes for outdoor sewerage

The installation of corrugated pipes for sewage is similar to the installation of smooth products, however, their flexibility must be taken into account. When building the system, pay great attention to the base.

Installation instructions for corrugated pipes for outdoor sewerage:

  • Dig a trench with inclined slopes of such a width that a gap of at least 20 cm remains between the track and its walls.
  • Make the bottom of the ditch at a slope of 2 cm by 1 m towards the drain. The angle will ensure the spontaneous movement of the drains.
  • Compact the base of the ditch and backfill with a layer of gravel and sand 10-15 cm thick. If the soil is loose, fill the bottom with concrete. The solution layer is 15 cm.
  • Lay the pipes so that the sockets are directed in the direction opposite to the direction of movement of the drains. They should fit snugly against the base. Make indentations under the joints if necessary.
  • After assembling the system, backfill the ditch with 10 cm thick sand. The top layer should be the soil removed by digging the ditch.
  • Install a double-layer corrugated pipe for sewage in dry weather at temperatures above +15 degrees. Such conditions will ensure the maximum tightness of the line.

The way pipes are assembled depends on their design and the material from which they are made. During installation, follow these recommendations:

  • Before joining the pipes to the socket, check for O-rings in the socket and coat the surface with grease. Install the smooth part into the socket until it stops. To increase the tightness, the mating surfaces can be greased with silicone, having previously been treated with a sanding paper to improve the adhesion of the adhesive to the plastic. However, in this case, the connection will be permanent.
  • Corrugated pipes for external sewerage without sockets are welded using special devices - soldering irons. The device has flanges that simultaneously heat the ends of the elements to be connected. They are sold with interchangeable attachments that allow you to connect products of different diameters. Before work, it is necessary to heat the nozzles, put pipes on them, and then quickly press the workpieces together. After a short period of time, the material will harden and a monolithic structure is formed. The heating temperature for each material is different, it is indicated in the instructions for the device.
  • In some cases, the products are connected by a coupling with a rubber ring, which is installed in the groove of the corrugation. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the dimensions of the products. On pipes with a diameter of 250-100 mm, the ring is placed in the first groove, for products of smaller diameter - in the second. In this case, the profile of the ring should be directed in the direction opposite to the end of the pipe.
  • To connect the corrugated pipe with the sewage system and neighboring products, couplings of various designs and purposes are also used: bends, heat shrinkable couplings, tees, elements for connecting to products of other types, adapters to a different diameter.
  • For joining corrugated pipes with products made of cast iron, concrete or other material, couplings with an O-ring are used.

Price of corrugated pipes for outdoor sewerage

The following factors influence the price of corrugated pipes for sewage:

  • The material from which they are made … The cheapest are PVC products, the most expensive are HDPE.
  • Wall thickness … Massive products consume a lot of material, so their cost is higher. The stiffness class depends on the wall thickness. Therefore, we can say that the higher the rigidity, the more expensive the products.
  • Place of manufacture … The farther the goods are transported from the place of manufacture, the higher the transportation costs and the higher the final price of the corrugated pipe for external sewerage. Traditionally, the cost of domestically produced products is lower than the prices for foreign counterparts.
  • Product quality … This factor most of all affects the models that are connected by welding. To obtain a high-quality joint, it is necessary that there are no defects in the abutting surfaces - there are no cracks, ovality, the dimensions correspond to the declared values, etc. Therefore, before you buy a corrugated pipe for sewage at bargain prices, check its condition.
