Installation of a chandelier in a suspended plasterboard ceiling must be carried out in strict observance of the rules for fixing and connecting to the power supply. To carry out the work yourself, be sure to read the instructions for different types of installation. The criteria for selecting a chandelier for a plasterboard ceiling are much less than for a stretch ceiling. This is due to the fact that gypsum boards are more resistant to elevated temperatures than stretch fabrics. In addition, even models with raised sockets and different types of bulbs can be mounted in pendant structures.

If the chandelier is designed for several lamps, then it is advisable to purchase a dimmer - a device that smoothly turns on the lighting device and adjusts the intensity of the luminous flux. This allows you to significantly save energy consumption and extend the service life of the bulbs.

Fastening a plasterboard ceiling chandelier to an anchor hook

It is necessary to decide on the type of lighting device and the method of fastening at the design stage of the suspended structure. At the beginning of work, the room must be de-energized.

We carry out the installation work as follows:

  • We mark the ceiling and walls for the installation of the frame.
  • We fix the guide profile according to the level of fastening of the suspended cover.
  • We install ceiling profiles and lintels cut from them.
  • We make a hook from a collet anchor and a threaded rod with a diameter of 1 cm.
  • In the place where the chandelier is installed, we drill a hole and screw in the expansion anchor hook.
  • We screw the eye nut onto the threaded rod.
  • We insulate the hook using a special tape to prevent contact with the metal elements of the chandelier.
  • We install the light box and lay the wires in a plastic corrugated pipe.
  • At the installation site of the chandelier, we make a wire conclusion.
  • If you plan to install halogen lamps, then we connect the wire to a 12 V step-down transformer. If - LED, then to the driver to convert the voltage to 3 V.
  • We make an approach to the switch. When choosing it, it is important to take into account the type of design: one-key (parallel switching on of all lamps) and two-key (switching on individual groups of bulbs).
  • We sheathe the frame with plasterboard.
  • In the place where the chandelier is installed, we drill a hole with a drill with a special nozzle (crown) of the corresponding diameter.
  • We pull out the wires and connect to the device.
  • We check the performance of the bulbs.
  • We attach the product body to the fastening device.
  • We fix the decorative cap at the base of the plasterboard structure.

When connecting wires to the terminals of the device, it is important to avoid kinks. It is also not advisable to install the hook in a plastic dowel. In the event of a fire in the room or near neighbors from above, the plastic will melt, and the chandelier will collapse to the floor along with the ceiling.

If you initially decided to install a light chandelier or limit yourself to spot lighting, but then changed your mind, and the ceiling is already sheathed with plasterboard, then with a small distance to the base base, it is possible to mount it.

To do this, we adhere to the following instructions:

  1. We drill a hole with a crown in the place of the planned installation, the diameter of which is less than the diameter of the decorative glass.
  2. We select a plastic bottle of the same diameter according to the size of the hole and cut off the bottom.
  3. We make a hole in the cork with a drill diameter and insert an anchor into it with a length greater than the distance from the base ceiling to the gypsum board.
  4. Insert a drill with a bottle into the hole made in the drywall and make a hole in the base coat at minimum speed. All debris and dust in this case will crumble into the bottle.
  5. We insert an anchor into the drilled hole and fix it with a socket wrench.
  6. Tighten the anchor nut until it stops
  7. We connect the wiring to the chandelier and insulate it.
  8. We fix the device on the anchor and fix the decorative panel.

It is recommended to wrap the end of the anchor with electrical tape before fixing it in the interceiling space to avoid contact with the metal parts of the chandelier.

This method of attaching a chandelier to a plasterboard ceiling is used for products weighing up to 7 kilograms.

Installation is carried out according to the following instructions:

  • We make the markup for the profiles according to the scheme drawn up in advance.
  • Install the plasterboard ceiling frame.
  • We attach a profile to the ceiling in the area of the future fixing of the device and mark the places of fasteners through the holes on it.
  • Drill holes at the marked points with a perforator or drill.
  • We attach the embedded profile using dowel nails.
  • From the lighting box, we put the wiring in a corrugated hose and stretch it to the fixation point of the device.
  • We sheathe the frame of the gypsum board. At the installation site of the chandelier, cut a hole with a drill with a crown and pull out the wires.
  • We connect the wiring to the terminals of the lighting fixture and attach it to the embedded profile.
  • Installing a decorative plug.

Before attaching the chandelier to the plasterboard ceiling, you should check the functionality of all cartridges.

How to hang a chandelier on a plasterboard ceiling with a butterfly hook

This method is used for attaching lightweight models. It is also suitable for those cases where the ceiling is already sheathed, and the embedded profile or anchor hook for installing the chandelier is not provided.

In the process, we adhere to the following algorithm of actions:

  1. We make the markup and fix the frame of the plasterboard structure.
  2. We lay the wiring in a corrugated pipe.
  3. We cut a hole in the place of the planned connection of the chandelier using a drill and a crown.
  4. We pull out the wire and connect it to the device.
  5. We check the performance of the system.
  6. We insert a butterfly hook into the hole and twist until the system is fully disclosed.
  7. Wrap the protruding end with electrical tape.
  8. We attach the chandelier to the fasteners.

When making a hole in the gypsum board, keep in mind that the diameter of the crown must be chosen so that it is less than the diameter of the decorative cap of the chandelier.

Typically, overhead shades are lightweight and non-standard. They can even be attached to the ceiling, which has already been sheathed with drywall sheets.

The work is carried out as follows:

  • We carry out the marking of surfaces according to the drawn up drawing.
  • We collect the frame of the ceiling structure.
  • We lay the wiring, install the lighting box. Please note that it should be in an easily accessible place.
  • We install switches that open only the phase wire.
  • We sheathe the frame with sheets of drywall.
  • We drill four holes at the attachment point of the overhead chandelier and pull the wire through one of them.
  • Insert butterfly dowels into each of the holes with a diameter of several millimeters less than the diameter of the holes and screw in until it stops.
  • We fix the mounting plate on four fasteners.
  • We connect the wiring to the chandelier terminals, observing the polarity.
  • We fix the device to the fastener on the ceiling.

The holes must be spaced so that the fixed cover completely covers them and the mounting plate.

Connecting a plasterboard ceiling chandelier to the mains

Connecting the chandelier to the mains
Connecting the chandelier to the mains

Before hanging the chandelier on the plasterboard ceiling, it must be connected to the power supply wires. Even a beginner can correctly and safely connect the device.

The main thing is to consider the following rules:

  1. We bring three wires to the switch: phase (brownish), ground (yellow) and zero (blue).
  2. We direct the phase conductor to the junction box, and zero and grounding to the lighting device.
  3. There is no zero in the switch. We distribute the wires to the switch terminals.
  4. The phase conductor is determined using a screwdriver indicator or a voltmeter, after turning on the switch.
  5. The cross-section of the wire used must correspond to the maximum power consumption of all lamps.

One-key switch simultaneously turns on / off all the lights. We connect it as follows: brown wire - to the ceiling phase, blue - to zero, yellow - to the metal fixer of the chandelier.

A two-key device is used to organize partial switching on of individual groups of lamps. Its connection is carried out according to the following instructions: blue wires - to the phase, yellow - to the chandelier hook or plate, brown - to zero.

When working with electrical wiring, you need to be as careful and attentive as possible. It is important to follow all safety rules to avoid electric shock. Do not forget to completely insulate the wires after connecting.

Removing the chandelier from the ceiling
Removing the chandelier from the ceiling

Removing the product is sometimes necessary for cleaning or replacing it. In order to quickly and safely carry out the work, we proceed as follows: turn off the voltage, unscrew the clamping screw and slide the decorative glass down, disconnect the wires from the terminal block and remove the device case.

If the chandelier is heavy, then you will need an assistant who will hold it. You can take care of the design lightening in advance. To do this, you can unscrew the lamps, remove the pendants and shades. If you do not plan to immediately install the second plafond, then insulate the wires.
