The appearance of the talulu, appearance, characteristic behavior and his health, how to look after: walking, which includes diet, other procedures, training. Puppy cost. Talulu, small dogs. There are many versions about their origin. But, we can say with certainty that they are very ancient. Their compact size, pleasant, cheerful disposition and attractive appearance pleases even today. Outside of their homeland, doggies are not known. And even in their homeland, the talulu is not a numerous breed.

The emergence of the Talulu breed

Representatives of this species have been living in the Maltese Islands for many years, and maybe even millennia. Once upon a time, in Malta, in small bays for sailing ships, pirates loved to enter, who "fed" in abundance in the Mediterranean Sea. They say that on the courts of the "gentlemen of fortune" there were little black dogs. Their small size was determined by the fact that there was little space on the ships. For pirates, it was considered special chic if there were black dogs and cats on the ship. This is one of the versions of the emergence of the breed, which is now unusually named.

How can you translate their name? The word "lulu" in Malta means something like our bug. The union "ta" indicates belonging to something. If you literally translate the name of this breed, then it will sound like this - the owner's bug.

In cynology textbooks, about such breeds they write that these are dogs of national selection. And regarding the talulu variety, we can assume that these are dogs of island selection. Such animals are similar to Spitz dogs. Although there are not many of this type of dogs in the Mediterranean, they are still northern dogs.

The first mention of such pets occurs in the second century BC. They were mentioned by the ancient Greek historian Xenofond of Athens. Presumably, such dogs sailed on the ships of the ancient Greeks. In the Maltese Islands, there were many Italian knights. And by the way, it can be noted that the Valpino Italiano - Italian Spitz breed is very common in Italy. These dogs are slightly larger, have a different color, but this is the same Spitz-like animal.

It can be assumed that it was the Italian knights who took these dogs with them to their homeland from Malta. There was an Inquisition on the island, which did not like cats and burned them, considering them to be devilish offspring. Considering that in Europe there were hordes of rats that carried all kinds of dangerous diseases, in particular the plague, then they had to be destroyed by someone. And they exterminated pests, of course, here are the little dogs.

Here in Malta, there are little dogs called celtalbut. This term can be translated as "keel" - this is "dog", "talbut", meaning "pocket", that is - a pocket dog. Talulu and keltalbut are relatives. On the island of Goza, there is the megalithic temple of Ggantija. These are traces of some powerful civilization, which built buildings incomprehensible to us, amazing the imagination. This nationality kept such little dogs.

These animals, at the very beginning of their existence, had a cult purpose. Not a single historian and cynologist can say for sure how long ago these dogs appeared on earth, because they are not only in Malta, but also in Mexico. If you look closely, they look like tallulu. The skull of these dogs is rounded. They are very lively and active. Here, this is another version of the origin of talulu in Malta.

Talulu is an excellent companion, an active dog, but at the same time adequate. If you want to play, he will play, the owner is resting - the animal will not interfere with him. These pocket dogs are very playful and jumpy. They get along well with other pets if they are not aggressive. They love children very much. They are best kept at home.

Tallulu dog health

These are small and strong dogs. With good cultivation and care, an animal can live on average fifteen to eighteen years. Since it is a living entity, it can also be ill. But, genetic diseases of talulu are a predisposition to allergies, age-related cataracts and joint dislocation.

To avoid allergies, pets need to create a diet. Very fatty foods rich in protein are not suitable for them, and pieces from the human table are forbidden to all dogs.

When the joint is dislocated, the bones of the thallus are shifted from their normal position and the integrity of the adjacent tissue is disrupted. At the same time, the capsule that is associated with the joint ruptures, and blood vessels, ligaments, tendons also suffer. All this leads to pathological dysfunction.

As soon as the animal has this trouble, urgently take him to the veterinarian. A couple of days after the injury, the muscles contract and the tissues in the joint will heal. Then, in order to cure the dog, surgical intervention cannot be avoided. The longer the dog does not receive veterinary care, the more difficult it is to correct the situation. After a month, the injured leg of the animal cannot be saved.

Dislocation of a congenital nature lends itself to surgery. The diagnosis is based on the condition of a particular patient. Difficult cases require the use of prosthetics. Such surgery is complex and expensive. The pet should be monitored all its life, since relapses of the disease can manifest themselves at any time.

As they get older, some dogs may develop eye cataracts. In the course of life, the lens acquires a noticeable thickening, and its old tissues move to the center of the eyeball. There is a large layer of old tissue and the lens becomes cloudy. The dog loses focus and sees poorly. The only treatment for this lesion is surgery.

  1. Wool these dogs are double and thick. To prevent mats from forming in it, it must be systematically combed, especially when the dog is shedding. Owners of such pets must have a good tool for this. The very first is a professional comb with long metal teeth. It is needed for combing wool from tangles.
  2. The second thing you need for your talulu is a slicker. The most important thing is that its bristles are not sharp, otherwise you can scratch the pet's skin. You can check this by placing the bristles on the palm of your hand and making a slight pressure. If you feel that the ends of the teeth are too sharp, they dig into your palm, then you cannot buy such a slicker. If you are comfortable, then this is a good tool. A slicker is needed to comb out dead undercoat during molting. They bathe the tallulah once a week, after wetting the animal's fur coat well. After applying typed shampoos, be sure to use a conditioner. All soap products are thoroughly washed. A wet dog should never be combed out, as you pull out all of its fur, and bald spots will appear on its skin. It is first dried well with a hairdryer. The process of brushing the talulu can be facilitated by a special moisturizing spray that is sprayed on the coat before the procedure. At normal times, the dog is combed twice a week for fifteen minutes in the direction of hair growth.
  3. Teeth - this is the "scourge" of all small breeds and talulu, including. If they are not cleaned, a stone will form in which bacteria accumulate. The bacteria, in turn, cause inflammation of the gums, from which teeth fall out. Subsequently, stomach and digestion problems appear. Therefore, it is required to clean them three to four times every week. To do this, you will need a brush and paste. Pet stores now have a huge selection of different products. They even sell kits containing everything you need. Brushes are of different types, long, finger, plastic, silicone, rubber. All pastes and gels are bactericidal, but with different flavors, for example, beef, lamb, salmon. The use of these devices in combination will perfectly remove plaque and remove the unpleasant odor from the dog's mouth. Plaque prophylaxis can be done by feeding the dog dry food, and occasionally providing vein bones from pet stores.
  4. Ears Tallulah should be examined once a week. Pay attention to the condition of their skin so that it is not cracked, red, odorless, or otherwise abnormal. To clean the ears, you need to prepare. Buy herbal lotion, cotton pads. We move the fur inside the ear, hold the head so that the animal does not reflexively shake it and inject lotion. The product can be instilled or applied with a spray. Next, gently massage the base of the ear so that the lotion gets as deep as possible. Then release the dog to shake its head. Then, with a sponge, he removes the remains of the lotion with sulfur, which has dissolved. You cannot clean your ears with ear sticks. First, you tamp the secretions and bacteria deeper into the ear canal - a plug may form. Secondly, by constantly irritating the ear canal with an ear stick, you stimulate the terminal glands and they produce unnecessary secretions. You cannot use peroxide, it dries out and irritates the skin.
  5. Eyes tatulu can give off a secret, that is, flow. There may be various reasons for this. It can be helminthic infestations, food intolerance, allergic reaction, ingress of foreign particles on the mucous membrane of the eye. The animal needs to be checked by a veterinarian to find out the reason. With the usual clogging, the eyes are washed with lotion. To do this, wet the sponge well with the product and gently wipe the eye towards the inner corner.
  6. Claws cut at least once every two to three weeks. Before the procedure, be sure to trim the hair on the paws between the toes using scissors. It is very convenient to cut the claws themselves using special scissors called a guillotine. When shortening the length, try not to capture an extra, living layer so that blood does not flow. If this happens, rub the nail with hydrogen peroxide. For small breeds, you can purchase nail files to handle the edges of the claws. So they will not crack and the sharp edge of the claw is well removed. Do not forget about the dewclaws on the front feet, which also have claws that need to be cut.
  7. Feeding Tallulu is a responsible business. Best of all, the veterinarian or breeder from whom you bought the pet knows about all its nuances. They will tell you about how many times to feed a dog of different ages, what is the best food composition. By adhering to the recommendations of experts, your dog will live a long, fulfilling life. Many breeders feed their dogs with natural food: meat and cereals. But, this is not always convenient for busy people who do not have the ability to control food supplies and prepare them. You need to buy dry food professional, it is better not to take unknown ones. Make sure that they do not contain a lot of protein, as tallulu is a small dog and has a slightly different metabolism than large dogs. If there is oily food, pets will have secretions from the eyes. You need to know that if you are giving the dog dry food, then the food from the table cannot be added to the dog's bowl. You will disrupt the digestion and metabolism of the animal. Drinking water should be in the bowl at all times. Natural food should contain lean meats and offal and cereals. The natural diet includes the intake of fish oil, vitamins and minerals. These supplements will not only strengthen the body from the inside, but your dog will also "shine" on the outside.
  8. Walking in any weather, should be at least half an hour. In slushy weather, you can put a thin overalls on your dog so that you do not wash it completely at home later. On the street, do not just walk with the dog. You have to play with him a ball, a flying saucer stick, hide and seek, catch-up or teach them various tricks and commands.
