These mushrooms are considered harmless, with the exception of poisonous brothers, which can fall into your hands. For children under 7 years old, nutritionists generally do not recommend using them.

In addition, there are some contraindications for russula:

  • Various disorders of the heart, liver and kidneys … If a person is sick, russules turn into a poorly digestible product for the body, for the most part it depends on chitin, which does not dissolve in the stomach.
  • Personal intolerance … This is especially true for people with allergenic tendencies. The fact that these mushrooms are eaten most often without any heat treatment, and contributes to the non-perception of it by the body.

Children are sensitive to many foods, some are allergic and difficult to digest. These include russula mushrooms. They are often perceived by the child's body as a foreign substance. When using these products, dosage and heat treatment are important.

Adults, too, should not get carried away with russula, know when to stop. It is recommended to consume them no more than 150 grams per day, and the most proven types. But children, if you really want, can also be treated: in limited quantities and proven fungi.

Unfortunately, not everyone is an experienced mushroom picker, and edible russules do not always have specific features by which they can be distinguished from poisonous representatives. Therefore, sometimes people accidentally eat toadstools with a burning, pungent pulp, after which the mucous membrane is irritated, which leads to vomiting.

Carefully! If you do not have experience, it is better to refuse to collect russules, and if you have collected them and are not sure of them, it is contraindicated to eat them without heat treatment.

Interesting facts about russula

Russula in the forest
Russula in the forest

These mushrooms are really surprising because they completely break stereotypes. The habitat is varied: from coniferous forests to swampy river banks. And their "level" of edibility depends on it. The most valuable are russula with green, yellow and blue hats. The russula themselves are so similar to each other that even experts in this field find it difficult to find out which species they are dealing with. Chemical analysis is sometimes even used to determine it.

These mushrooms can be consumed without heat treatment. They got their name due to the fact that they can be eaten only after a day, as they are salted.

They appear in large numbers in the fall, although you can see them making their way through the ground in late spring. Mushroom pickers should remember that when collecting russules, they require a special approach in the form of a separate basket. If you put them together with other mushrooms, you will see only crumbs and pulp at home.

If the russula has a bitter taste, this does not mean that it is poisonous, you just need to soak or boil in salt water. But it is better for inexperienced collectors not to encounter such species, because it is easy to confuse them with inedible brothers, and they can harm you.

The term "dandies" is the second name for russula, such a "pseudonym" they received for their bright, all colors of the rainbow color. It is also the feature that defines this type of mushroom as an independent one. Although they do not fall into the "highest category", they can be safely attributed to category 3 for such beneficial substances for the body as B2 and PP.
