Useful tips for growing raspberries: care and pruning of the bush. How to properly prepare raspberries for winter? Can you transplant in August, which in summer gives two harvests or not? You will find the answers to these questions in this informative article on our website TutKnow.ru. Raspberries can be planted in spring, fall, and even summer, but it's important to do it right and prune it. You need to know that an ordinary raspberry shoot lives for a year and a half, and a remontant one - one season.

Spring planting is not very desirable, since sap flow begins early in raspberries. Saplings grow replacement shoots, which usually break off when planting. Shoots with green leaves use substances accumulated in reserve, because the root system is not able to provide the plant with water and nutrients. Therefore, the plants take a long time to take root. The planted bushes are saved by a very low pruning of shoots to the buds that have not grown.

Planting with green shoots is carried out in the spring - at the beginning of summer, when they have reached a height of 15-20 cm. In hot and dry weather, they are watered. If the shoots are tall, they are cut to 15-20 cm. In the summer, the seedlings are planted in containers. They take root well and take root by winter. When planting, they are taken out and planted in a previously prepared hole, having previously revived it with fertilizers or compost.

In autumn, planting begins when the shoots are ripe. This can be seen in the formed kidneys. It is not recommended to plant raspberries in late autumn, since they are unlikely to have time to take root. Therefore, late acquired seedlings with the onset of severe frosts should be stored in barely damp fresh sawdust in a plastic bag, leaving it open. It is important that the raspberry has vibrant, bright brown roots. In winter, a bag of seedlings is kept in a basement or other cool room, preferably at a temperature no higher than 4 degrees. In winter to water raspberries are not allowed!

At pruning raspberriesif the site is thickened, you need to remove the underdeveloped shoots and some of the good shoots. Developed shoots are left, located at a distance of at least 10 cm, sometimes 2-3, but no more, growing from one root. At the top of the left shoots, underdeveloped buds are removed. If raspberries are planted in separate bushes at a distance of 30-50 cm, you can leave 3-5 shoots growing from one root.

At the end of May - in the middle of June, the shoots should be pruned at a height of 80-90 cm, then 4-5 new branches will grow on them, and they will be the basis of the future harvest. The shoots that bore fruit this year must be cut higher (by 2-3 mm) of the last, starting from the top, the bud, which is ripe. Orient the pruner tips towards the root, not up. In mid-May, when young shoots reach a height of 40-50 cm, thinning is carried out, removing small shoots. And after 2-3 weeks, when the shoots reach 80-90 cm, they are shortened by 5-6 leaves to get branched shoots. At the end of July, after harvesting, not for thinning, the shoots are pruned, and those that have borne fruit are removed under the root.

If you want to get two crops of remontant raspberries, you need to prune and care for them as you would for regular raspberries. However, both yields will be small. To obtain one, but a large late autumn harvest, all the shoots that bear fruit in the fall, and the young ones that have not yet borne fruit, are cut out at the root.

Young shoots of remontant raspberries are looked after in the same way as for ordinary ones. You can form part of the bushes for two harvests, and part for one.
