The article discusses what carved stretch ceilings are and what their design is, describes the design possibilities, advantages and installation technology. Perforated (carved) ceilings have not only decorative and highly aesthetic properties. They can be used with practical benefits: installing a micro-perforated sheet is the easiest way to absorb sounds in a room.

Sound waves emanating from various sources are damped when passing through thousands of holes in the perforated canvas of the stretch ceiling. The air trapped between the films and in the micropores of the membrane resists sound and converts it into heat energy.

Today, carved ceilings can be seen in gyms, offices, swimming pools and other spaces where the acoustic properties of such structures are a necessity.

The advanced technology of carved stretch ceilings allows you to visually increase the volume of the premises. In addition, they have the following advantages:

  • Finely perforated carved ceilings have excellent sound insulation.
  • Environmental friendliness of materials of manufacture, antistatic properties and fire safety.
  • Fast assembly during the work shift.
  • The possibility of combining with other types of tension structures: soaring, multi-level ceilings, with photo printing and "starry sky".
  • Good moisture resistance.
  • Contemporary style, sophisticated design.
  • Chemical resistance.
  • The ability to maintain its original color and durability for many years.
  • A combination of high practicality, beauty and unique use of the play of daylight and artificial light.
  • Versatility, use in residential and public buildings.
  • Easy maintenance: The ceiling can be easily cleaned with soap and water.

There are few drawbacks to carved stretch ceilings. The most significant inconvenience is the decrease in the height of the room when using a multi-level system. For tall rooms, such a ceiling would be ideal.

Before making a carved stretch ceiling, all the necessary engineering communications should be fixed on the floor slabs: electrical wiring, ventilation ducts, etc.

After that, the location of the baguettes is determined on the walls for the subsequent fastening of the carved ceiling paintings in them. To do this, measure the distance from the base surface to the border of the future tensile structure and make a mark.

Then it should be transferred to all walls of the room using a laser or hydraulic level for this purpose. The resulting points must be connected with a common perimeter in the form of a solid line, which is beaten off with a paint cord. The markings for the fastening profiles are ready.

For carved stretch ceilings, there are four types of attachment of canvases to profiles:

  1. Two layers of ceiling sheets are fixed in standard h-profiles. In this case, the distance between the canvases can be adjusted as desired and even the number of ceiling layers can be increased. This option is suitable for those rooms in which the loss of their height due to the tension structure is not essential, that is, the rooms must be high.
  2. The second option provides for the use of a special Apply 8 profile. Its height is 3 cm. The distance between the two panels will be only 8 mm.
  3. The third option uses the Apply 40 profile. The distance between the baguettes is 4 cm, and the loss of the height of the room is 12 cm. This method is used, if necessary, the device between the layers of LED backlighting.
  4. The last option is to apply the Apply 0 profile, in which the canvases are located close to each other. This method is used when a minimum loss of room height is required, which here is 3 cm.

First of all, according to the technology of carved stretch ceilings, a background top sheet is installed in the inner groove of the profiles. The carved canvas is fixed in a groove, which is located closer to the wall. In some cases, a single-color film can serve as the basis, while in others it is welded from several cuts of different shades. For example, the base is a bright glossy membrane, and the decor is matte white with carved circles.

Further installation is carried out in the usual way for all stretch ceilings using a heat "gun". When cooling down, the canvases will give perfectly flat surfaces.

When installing a carved stretch ceiling, remember about two of its key features:

  • The holes made in the canvases must be free of sharp corners.
  • When designing circles or other regular shapes, it must be borne in mind that when the ceiling is pulled, the holes can deform slightly.
