Rules for choosing the optimal design of a drywall flower on the ceiling, design features, ways of creating a sketch and surface marking, instructions for installing a drywall flower on the ceiling. If your ceiling is perfectly flat, then you can install the flower directly on the surface. However, most often the decorative element is fixed on the gypsum plasterboard suspended ceiling. Therefore, first of all, you need to mark the base surface under the suspended ceiling. To do this, we mark the walls in the places of the supporting profile fasteners. Please note that a distance of at least 100 mm must be maintained between the base surface and the first level of the plasterboard ceiling. Otherwise, there will be no place to install lighting fixtures and natural ventilation.

Forming a frame for a plasterboard flower on the ceiling

The flower frame is created in several stages. The process is quite complicated, since the structure is not visible, and one can only judge about it by its outlines. Note that the frame for all future levels must be fixed at the same time. In the course of work, the wiring for future fixtures should be fixed.

A drywall flower can be attached to the ceiling close and indented. It depends on whether you plan to do the highlighting of the flower.

We work in the following sequence:

  • We fix the SD profile vertically along the outline of the sketch. We do this with an indent from the ceiling in the size of the thickness of the sheet.
  • We make V-shaped or regular notches along the entire length of the profile, observing the same spacing, so that the profile ideally follows the silhouette of the image.
  • We install the profile to the ceiling frame using self-tapping screws. If the flower will be mounted on the base ceiling, then use plastic dowels.
  • We observe the minimum spacing between the fasteners - about 40 cm. To make the structure more reliable, it can be reduced.
  • To get a perfectly flat structure, use a building level at each stage of creating the frame.

If you are going to install the lighting of a drywall flower on the ceiling with your own hands, then the frame of the object can repeat its contour conditionally. After all, he will not be visible. In this case, along the contour with a small indent, you need to cut the horizontal profiles on which the gypsum board will be attached.

If the flower is to be mounted on a plasterboard suspended ceiling, then, first of all, you need to assemble the main surface. We perform all work in the following sequence:

  1. We attach the main and additional profiles to the walls and ceiling.
  2. We fasten additional strips to the suspensions. At the same time, we control the flatness of the plane using a level.
  3. Fit the joints of adjacent sheets neatly. We attach their edges to one profile.
  4. We fix the gypsum board on self-tapping screws with a step of 20-25 cm.
  5. We sew the frame of the flower with drywall according to the standard scheme.
  6. If your flower will have curved edges or a core, then it is best to use arched gypsum boards to overlap the side parts. They bend well when moistened and cut. Remember, the more often and neatly you make incisions on a curved surface, the less putty work you will have to do during the finishing phase.
  7. We make notches with a needle roller.
  8. If you have conceived a backlight between the levels of the flower and the ceiling, then it must be installed at the stage of mounting the decorative object. If you make an indent between the levels of the ceiling and the flower about 5-10 cm and insert the backlight there, you can get a stunning 3D object effect.

The final finish of the plasterboard flower on the ceiling

Before starting the finishing work, all ceiling surfaces, as well as the surfaces of the decorative flower, should be prepared. We carry out these works according to the following scheme:

  • GKL joints on the main ceiling are putty.
  • After the finishing mixture has completely dried, we rub all surfaces with sandpaper.
  • We carry out the same work with the attachment points of self-tapping screws.
  • We sand the ends of the flower and glue it with paper tape. Alternatively, you can use a serpyanka.
  • We putty the irregularities and finally level them with sandpaper.

The last stage of work is painting the flower. If you are making a colored plasterboard ceiling, then you should not choose too dark shades. This will make the structure heavier and make the ceiling visually lower. Also, you should not pick up sharp color contrasts on the ceiling. The ideal option is to use colors that are similar in tonality. For example, light green with green, blue with blue, beige and champagne. You can use three shades, but remember that brute force can only ruin your ceiling structure. You can also paint all the horizontal planes on the ceiling one color and the vertical ones another.
