Varieties of patterns on the wallpaper, the choice of ornament in accordance with the style of the room, the calculation of the number of rolls and the rules for gluing sheets with images. Oriental wallpaper patterns are a rather rare type of images that are used in ethnic interiors. Hieroglyphs, Arabic script, images of African animals are applied to the canvas. Sometimes surfaces are decorated in this way in modern interiors, if there are no other decorations.

An important characteristic of wallpaper is the material from which it is made. It depends on its properties in which rooms they can be glued. Relatively inexpensive paper and non-woven wallpaper can be glued in rooms with low humidity, for example, in the bedroom and living room. Textured foam vinyl panels, which are not recommended to be washed often, look more stylish in such rooms.

In narrow rooms, for example, in corridors or hallways, where the walls are often dirty, glass wallpaper should be glued.

Thick vinyl wallpaper impregnated with a water-repellent substance with a smooth surface is glued in rooms with high humidity. Dirt from such material can be easily removed with household detergents.

For wallpaper with pictures, the choice of color scheme is of great importance, as well as the dimensions of the room and the presence of other decoration elements:

  • In small rooms, cover the walls with light monochromatic wallpaper or canvas with small drawings in a neutral style.
  • In large rooms, darker foliage with large pictures is glued. They visually reduce the space.
  • To visually enlarge low rooms, canvases are glued to the walls, plain or with vertical stripes, from floor to ceiling.
  • In any case, the wall cladding should be darker than the ceiling.
  • High ceilings allow wallpaper with horizontal stripes or large patterns.
  • There is a lighting solution for semi-dark rooms. Light wallpapers of warm shades are glued on a light wall, they will add light to the room.
  • Decorate rooms with window openings on the south side with sheets of cold shades - green, gray, blue.
  • It is not recommended to hang pictures and photographs on a wall with a large pattern. Such hinged elements are placed on wallpaper for walls with a small pattern.
  • For cases where the walls are given a dominant value, the pattern on the panel is large and contrasting. This is how large rooms are finished.

Wallpaper with patterns is a good way to decorate any room. We offer several options for decorating walls in rooms for various purposes:

  1. In the bathroom, only the lower part of the walls can be tiled. The top is covered with wallpaper with images of delicate shades. These wallpapers look good with marble tiles and bronze decorations.
  2. In the hallway, it is better to stick bright wallpaper with ornaments, which create a pleasant impression of the house on the first visit.
  3. Only one wall in the room can be originally finished. This option is used to draw attention to the composition, which is located against the background of wallpaper with drawings. The rest of the partitions should be decorated in a different style.
  4. Wallpaper on wood-paneled walls also looks good. The wallpaper should have a classic pattern and vintage furniture should be placed in the room.
  5. In some cases, the kitchen can be decorated in a very unusual way. An open shelf instead of cabinets divides the walls in two. The lower one is finished with ceramic tiles, the upper one is covered with a dynamic floral pattern. This method visually increases the volume of the kitchen. Another use of patterned wallpaper in the kitchen is to adhere the wallpaper to the back stacks of cabinets, which are clearly visible through the large glass doors.

Calculation of the number of wallpaper with a pattern for the walls

Before purchasing a product, the buyer must determine the number of rolls of coating. The problem is quickly resolved if adjacent sheets do not require fitting to the pattern. If, when gluing the panels, it is necessary to combine the patterns, the calculation of the rolls is performed taking into account the gaps between the repeating patterns.

As an example, let's calculate the number of rolls for wallpaper with a width of 0.53 m, a length of 10 m, which are planned to be glued in a room with a height of 2.5 m and a perimeter of 30.4 m.

Calculation features:

  • Determine the step of the pattern on the wallpaper (0.38 m).
  • Taking into account the height of the wall, the step of the drawing and the stock of the canvas, the height of one strip will be equal to 0.38x7 = 2.66 m (lengths 0.38x6 = 2.28 for a wall of 2.5 m will be small).
  • Determine the number of strips that can be cut from a roll: 10/2, 66 = 3 pcs.
  • Determine the number of stripes for the entire room: 30, 4/0, 53 = 58 pcs.
  • Determine the number of rolls 58/3 = 30 pcs. (including whole rolls).

After removing the coating, inspect the surfaces of the mill for defects and putty them. Prime the finished surface. Make sure all rolls have the same lot, pattern and color numbers.

Prepare an adhesive solution. The best option would be to purchase glue, which is recommended by the manufacturer of the finishing material, it is indicated on the product packaging. You can also use universal remedies.

Determine on which wall to glue the wallpaper with a pattern at the very beginning of work. It is recommended to start gluing from the lightest area, for example, from a window. On the surface of the wall, at a distance of 50 cm from the window frame, draw a vertical line, which will be the base for gluing the first sheet. The hallway can be decorated with the most daring drawings, given that no one lingers there.

Pasting wallpaper takes a lot of time due to the need to combine the patterns on the panels. The rest of the work is identical to gluing other types of coatings:

  1. Cut a strip, the length of which is 10-15 cm longer than the height of the wall. A margin is needed to ensure that there are no gaps between the wallpaper, ceiling and floor.
  2. Lay the strip face down on the floor or table, brush the glue on half of the sheet. Lubricate the sheet with glue from the center to the periphery.
  3. Fold the spread sheet in half.
  4. Repeat the procedure for the other half of the sheet.
  5. Allow time for the sheets to soak in the glue. The time for impregnation depends on the type of wallpaper and is fixed on the packaging of the material.
  6. Fold out the top of the canvas, attach it to the wall, align along a vertical line. Leave a margin of 5 cm at the top.
  7. Press down on the sheet and squeeze the air out from under it with a roller, moving from the center to the edge of the sheet.
  8. Glue the bottom of the canvas wall in the same way.
  9. Unfold the roll to a length of 50 cm more than the height of the wall. Attach the blank to the wall and match the pattern to the already glued strip. It is necessary to select the image while facing the pasted canvas, otherwise we will get a mirror image.
  10. Cut the sheet to the desired length and glue it. After the end of gluing with a sharp knife, cut off the excess parts of the canvases near the ceiling and floor. Uneven cuts will cover the skirting boards.
