Solid shampoo is a natural, concentrated hair wash that looks like an ordinary toilet soap in a bar. The cosmetic product has become a hit in recent years, as it has many advantages over its usual counterpart in liquid form.

What is solid shampoo?

A few years ago, liquid shampoo had a competitor - a natural product in solid form that resembles a bar of regular soap. However, as it turns out, this is not an exclusive novelty or a marketing ploy, once the hair was washed with soap. But with the appearance in 1927 of shampoo in the form we are accustomed to, this method was forgotten.

The composition of a solid shampoo is more concentrated than a liquid shampoo, as it does not contain water. Includes foaming agents (surfactants) and caring components. Surfactants with mild action of vegetable origin. Caring components include various plant extracts, oils, hydrolates, herbal extracts, mineral salts, seaweed. By the way, in the liquid shampoo there are only 20% active and caring components, the rest is water.

A solid cosmetic product contains many oils and extracts. But their amount in liquid most often does not exceed 0.5%, if the shampoo is transparent. In addition, so that the oils do not float on the surface of the liquid product, auxiliary substances are introduced into the composition, which are not always of natural origin.

The solid shampoo does not contain the fragrances and preservatives that are added to conventional shampoos to maintain a liquid consistency and long shelf life. Therefore, it is an absolutely natural remedy.

Along with solid shampoo, there is also a dry one. The first product comes in the form of a bar, the second is a powder. There are also differences in the action and composition of these funds. The dry shampoo contains starch, talc, vegetable powder, the product absorbs fat from the hair, improves its appearance, gives volume (for several hours) and allows you to delay the procedure for washing the hair, but the head remains dirty. A solid shampoo allows you to fully wash your hair.

Very often, solid shampoo is confused with shampoo soap. And the manufacturers themselves often call one remedy another. But these are quite different products, and the difference lies, again, in the composition and effect on the hair. Solid shampoo contains pressed surfactants and caring components, while shampoo soap consists of saponified vegetable oils. Also in the composition of the latter, sodium salts of fatty oils may be indicated. The use of a solid shampoo does not require additional use of a conditioner, with the exception of dry hair; after shampoo soap, it is recommended to use at least a vinegar rinse.

Pros and cons of solid shampoos

Solid shampoo does not contain preservatives, so such cosmetics are more natural than liquid ones, and this is their main advantage. In addition, despite the absence of preservatives in the solid shampoo, this unique product has a long shelf life - at least 12 months.

Solid shampoos are economical to use because they are a concentrate. One bar will last for 2-3 months, even if you use it regularly. A 50 g solid bar replaces a 300 ml bottle of liquid shampoo.

Thanks to its compactness, this solid hair shampoo is ideal for travel and travel. If you are flying with one hand luggage, you can safely take it with you, which cannot be said about a liquid product that falls under the existing restrictions on carriage.

As a rule, natural solid shampoos are sold in eco-packaging - a paper box, which is important if you are concerned about environmental issues.

Important! The solid shampoo lathers well.

However, at first glance, such an ideal tool is not without some disadvantages. The price of solid shampoo is quite high due to its naturalness and numerous beneficial properties. However, taking into account the economy in use, this drawback loses its meaning.

The presence of useful additives in the solid shampoo allows you to get rid of dandruff, normalize the sebaceous glands and sebum production, and stop the process of hair loss.

Often, when using a solid shampoo, there is no need to apply balm or masks after washing your hair. Hair already becomes smooth, manageable, easy to comb and fit into hairstyles, does not frizz and does not electrify. However, if your hair is very dry, you still need to use conditioner to add moisture to it.

As a concentrate, the product washes the hair literally until it squeaks. A solid shampoo bar is ideal for oily hair. They will get dirty more slowly, and you can wash them less often.

Before using a solid shampoo at home, it is important to test it, as the composition is saturated with numerous essential oils that can cause allergies. Apply a small amount of cosmetic to the skin behind the ear and assess the reaction after 20 minutes. If no negative manifestations have arisen, no irritation, rashes, itching appear, you can use a shampoo.

Solid shampoo is not suitable for those with too dry hair. However, with the additional use of a quality moisturizing balm, this is easy to fix.

Before you buy a solid shampoo, it is important to examine its packaging, analyze the composition, and find out the expiration date. They are for dry hair, for those prone to oily, for adding volume, etc.

How to choose a solid shampoo based on your hair condition:

  • Dandruff … Choose products containing birch tar, juniper and sage extracts. Keep in mind that solid shampoo will hardly help get rid of oily seborrhea, you cannot do without pharmaceutical preparations.
  • Against hair loss … To eliminate this problem, solid shampoos are suitable, which contain rosemary extract and laurel oil.

  • From excessive oiliness of the scalp. In this case, hair washes should contain clay and menthol. It is good if the composition contains extracts of nettle, rose hips, St. John's wort.
  • To preserve the brightness of colored hair … To prolong the beautiful appearance of hair after dyeing, choose a shampoo made on the basis of a mild surfactant with oils. For owners of dark hair, a product containing henna is well suited.

Such cosmetic products are made by domestic and foreign manufacturers. To choose the best solid shampoo, look at these brands:

  • Jurassic Spa … This is the first Russian manufacturer to start producing such products. Preparations are made separately for different types of hair - oily, dry, damaged, as well as against hair loss and against dandruff. It contains a soft soap base, extracts of medicinal herbs, moisturizers of natural origin, relic salt. It is recommended to use a solid shampoo in 2 stages: first wash the root part, and then the rest of the hair. The price of a solid shampoo is about 300 rubles for 110 g.
  • Mi & Co … Shampoo, made on the basis of sodium salts of oils, contains extracts of such plants as St. John's wort, lavender, ylang-ylang, lemon. Also in the product line there is a “beer” product containing hop cone extract and “Sandal” shampoo, which, due to the content of henna and oak bark, tones the hair, which allows you to hide gray hair. The cost of the tool is 320 rubles for 75 g.
  • Organic shop … Organic Kitchen products include soft surfactants made from coconut oil, sage extracts, shea butter, lychee. The products are able to increase the root volume of the hair, restore healthy shine to colored hair, and give it shine. You can buy solid shampoo at a price of 260 rubles per 100 g.

  6. Rinse off the mixture with warm water.
  7. If your hair is too dry, it is important to use a balm or conditioner after applying a solid shampoo.
