First of all, it is worth noting the use of this material not only in construction work, but also in the production of clothing. This already testifies to its safety for human health. Shelter is based on organic fibers that are combined with hot air. This method is called thermal bonding, and it eliminates the need for glue and other unwanted substances.

Unlike the fibers that are in the composition of mineral or glass wool, Shelter insulation has an elastic and long structure. Its particles retain their shape, do not break, do not irritate the skin and do not emit caustic impurities. Accordingly, even for installation work involving direct contact with the respiratory tract, it is not necessary to use a respirator, protective masks or gloves.

For the production of Shelter, special equipment is used, because in its thickness its fibers are several times thinner than a human hair. They are fastened together by the action of hot air currents, as a result of which a single canvas is obtained. This technology not only makes it possible to obtain an environmentally friendly material, but also guarantees the preservation of the stability of its shape and size.

The scope of application of this material is very diverse: it can be used in the construction of new houses and renovation of urban housing. It will also be effective when it is necessary to insulate plastic windows. Shelter can be used for various objects, for example, such as walls, ceilings, attics, ceilings, interior partitions, ventilated or plaster façades, interfloor ceilings, spans, floors, wall frames.

This heat insulator is produced by manufacturers in various forms and modifications. This is convenient because each object may require its own characteristics. Insulation types:

  • Shelter "Standard" … It is one of the versatile materials with a wide range of applications.
  • "Standard 25" … It is acquired in the process of additional insulation of walls inside buildings before finishing work.
  • "Light" … Perfect for thermal insulation of summer cottages and garages, as well as summer kitchens and utility rooms.
  • "Premium" … It is particularly durable and is suitable for external insulation of buildings in which people live all year round.
  • "Facade" … It is used when working with ventilated and plaster facades.
  • "Acoustic" … Especially in demand in rooms where there is a need for additional sound insulation.
  • "Sauna" … Designed specifically for rooms with constantly high humidity levels. The fibers repel moisture, prevent the spread of mold and mildew, as well as other microorganisms.

Note! Shelter polyester heaters do not require additional protection from moisture and wind, since they independently perform these functions. This partially reduces the cost of carrying out thermal insulation works.

Advantages and disadvantages of Shelter insulation

When buying material, it is important to pay attention to its packaging. The original Shelter is produced by the Russian company Ecostroy, so you should look for the name of this manufacturer's name, which guarantees high product characteristics.

Typically, the products are mats with dimensions 60 x 120 cm. Another form of production is rolls with tapes, different in width and length. Each package contains 6 individual Shelter plates. If the insulator is of original quality, then it should be white or light beige, which does not change over time.

Thanks to the use of new technologies, this heat insulator has acquired unique properties that have become its direct advantages:

  1. Complete environmental safety, because the material is organic in nature and does not cause allergic reactions in others.
  2. Insulation Shelter Ecostroy, which is well-deserved success with customers, has a low value of the thermal conductivity coefficient, which is approximately the same as that of mineral wool.
  3. Special attention should be paid to the fact that it allows air to pass through itself and normalizes the indoor climate.
  4. Fire safety: since the insulation is not flammable, it means that it cannot cause a fire. Even when exposed to direct flame, it will not release toxic substances into the atmosphere.
  5. Shelter's temperature regime allows it to withstand the strongest gusts of wind. Excellent thermal insulation at a relatively low thickness guarantees reliable protection even in severe frosts.
  6. This material is convenient to transport, because it is produced in rolls that do not take up much space.
  7. Shelter's styling does not require any exceptional professional skills. All the tools you need to do the job are likely to be found in the household.
  8. Excellent resilience and dimensional stability prevents gradual slippage along the walls. At the same time, there is no need to fear the loss of significant areas inside the room.
  9. Savings in use due to the fact that Shelter does not crumble and practically does not waste.
  10. Flexibility that allows you to insulate even hard-to-reach places in building structures.
  11. It is produced in rolls that are specially matched to the standard dimensions of the sheathing frame, which makes it easy to install, even without qualifications.
  12. It has an unlimited service life and can even be reused.
  13. Due to the special structure of the fibers, it is not loved by domestic rodents and other parasites, not only as food, but also as a habitat, and is also immune to fungi and various molds.
  14. Waterproof under the influence of moisture and not afraid of flooding. Even if Shelter absorbs a little water, its thermal insulation qualities are not reduced.
  15. It is absolutely inert in terms of exposure to chemicals and compounds. Shelter can be called safe in this sense, since it cannot enter into compounds with alkalis, acids and other reagents.
  16. Thanks to a wide range of manufactured modifications, it is possible to select a heat insulator for existing needs.

Among the possible disadvantages of this material, it is possible to note its blow through, which is associated with uneven density. In such cases, it is necessary to make a choice in favor of denser Shelter modifications. Its price is higher than that of a number of other common heaters, but it has many advantages over them and is more convenient to install.

House insulation technology by Shelter

This insulator, like many others, is fixed on a special frame made of wood or metal. Depending on the width of the Shelter, the pitch of the crate is set, which should be a couple of millimeters less.

Preparing for insulation with Shelter

Sanding the wall

Any heat-insulating work should begin with a thorough preparation of the surface of the wall to be insulated - the reliability of the entire structure in the future will largely depend on this. It must be made as flat as possible, since any depressions and pits will lead to the formation of condensation and delamination of the laid insulator.

If the wall was previously covered with paint, it must be removed cleanly. For these purposes, it makes sense to rent grinding equipment equipped with a large emery cloth. It is easy to check the condition of the cleaned surface - just hold it with the palm of your hand. If nothing stuck to her, then she is ready for the next step.

In some cases, additional priming of the wall surface will be useful. It is applied with a special paint roller, periodically squeezing it out to save paint consumption. When choosing a primer, you can purchase any paint, but much depends on the quality of the wall surface treatment.

Before starting work, be sure to stock up on sharp scissors, because cutting this insulator with a knife is not very convenient. If the purchased material is in the form of ribbons, packed in a roll, they are stretched to length and cut into small squares. The width of such pieces will be related to the width of the cells in the sheathing structure.

From the list of necessary tools and consumables, the following can be distinguished: a paint roller, as well as a brush and a spray, assembly tape, sharpened scissors, a bucket for stirring glue, a hammer, a screwdriver, an electric drill or a screwdriver.

Experts call the optimal laying thickness an indicator equal to 15-20 cm when it comes to insulating the walls of a building. Since most of the insulator with a thickness of 50 mm is on sale, you will have to mount 2-3 insulation layers. A construction stapler is used to connect the individual plates to each other. At the same time, there is no need to fix the material to the wall surface - it is enough to fasten individual heat-insulating sheets together and lay them tightly into the frame.

If necessary, it makes sense to mount an additional partition. This will provide a better fixation of the insulator and prevent it from sliding down the wall. In many cases, construction crews use a special adhesive tape designed to work with polyester fibers.

The easiest way to carry out thermal insulation based on Shelter material is that its pieces are laid in a pre-installed frame of a wooden lathing. After that, it is fixed with rails or a construction stapler. However, for those who are interested in the most reliable installation method, there is a more complex work algorithm, which also requires mounting adhesive tape:

  • First, excess moisture is removed from the wall, that is, it must be completely dry to obtain high adhesion.
  • Glue is applied using a paint roller or spray (if we are talking about a large insulated area).
  • Now you need to wait for the moment when its color changes from white to colorless.
  • The glued surfaces of the heat insulator and the wall are aligned and pressed for a few moments.
  • It remains to wait for the adhesive solution to dry completely, this can take up to 20 minutes.

Important! To make the connection as reliable as possible, it is advisable to apply adhesive tape to each of the surfaces to be matched. The solution has constant stickiness, therefore, if you need to peel off the insulation for trimming, it can be fixed back, without additional coating.

Surface finishing

Plasterboard plaster
Plasterboard plaster

After the Shelter insulation is laid, they begin to close the structure. For this, fiberboard or drywall sheets can be used. The closed surface must be plastered. Without this stage, there is nothing to think about finishing work.

First, the surface of the insulated wall is measured by level to determine the areas that require leveling. For this, special measuring beacons are installed in various places. The plaster is applied in small portions with a spatula, focusing on the level of the signaling devices. It is better to use cement-lime mixtures as a solution. The room must be protected from drafts until the plastered surface is completely dry. Otherwise, shrinkage cracks may appear.

In order to improve the bonding properties, the wall can be additionally primed before plastering. The paint should be selected specifically for the type of plaster that will be used. To apply the composition, you will need a wide paint roller.

In the process of plastering, grouting is carried out at the same time - it must be done until the surface is completely set. A float is pressed against the wall, which evens out the plaster, cutting off the bumps and filling in all kinds of cavities.

After that, you can proceed to the finishing, which is carried out taking into account the wishes of the owner. Some people prefer painting the finished surface, others prefer freshly pasted wallpaper. Depending on the type of room, wood or stone trim may be a good solution.
