Pythons (Latin Pethonidae) are a fairly large family of snakes that are not naturally venomous. They took the beginning of their pedigree from the squadron scaly and reptile class.

If we talk about the distribution of these snakes in nature, then they live mainly in the territories of the Eastern Hemisphere: in Asia, Australia and Africa.

The most famous types of huge reptiles:

  1. Halmacher's amethyst python (lat. Morelia tracyae). Belongs to the genus of rhombic Australian pythons. Habitat - Indonesia and the islands of the Malay Archipelago, where he prefers to spend his time among mountain rainforests and various marshlands. Leads predominantly arboreal lifestyle. This is a large creature, the length of its beautiful body is on average 2, 8–3 m, in the scientific literature, individual individuals are described that grow up to 4 m. The body of the snake is strong and muscular enough, in the head area there are shields. The color is usually heterogeneous, presented in different shades of brown, sometimes with a yellowish tint, on the main background it is easy to see a pattern that is formed by dark specks of an angular shape. This species can be kept at home, but due to its size, not every person can find so much space in his home, therefore, in captivity, he most often lives in the territories of various zoos.
  2. Black python or python helen (lat. Morelia boeleni) - This is a false-footed reptile, also belongs to the family of rhombic Australian pythons, native to New Guinea. It is there, on the slopes of the mountain range in various crevices and watersheds, that this handsome man lives. This reptile is rather thick and massive, but at the same time it has an average body length of about 1, 4–2, 5 m. The visiting card of this species is its color. The main tone is black, but if you look closely, you can easily notice the blue iridescent reflection. Against this background, vertically along the dorsal half of the body, an original linear ornament of white or slightly yellowish tones stands out. A feature of this painted eccentric is that on its territory he can never meet his relatives of other subspecies, this is due to the fact that the python chooses specific climatic conditions with sharp temperature changes, and not every living creature can withstand this. When keeping it in a terrarium, you also need to maintain such a difference in thermometer readings, during the day your snake should warm up at 28-32 degrees, and at night the temperature should not exceed 14-17 degrees.
  3. Hieroglyphic python (lat. Python sebae) one of the largest representatives of the genus of true pythons. Usually the length of his body is from 3 to 5 m and this is not the limit. The slender long body of this snake is decorated with a wide variety of patterns; on the head you can see a dark speck in the form of a triangle and a line between the eyes of the same shade. The pattern on the body is formed from a large number of lines and stripes, which, connecting with each other, resemble zigzags and hieroglyphs, and the side of the snake body is strewn with dark blotches. Such a unique appearance allows this animal to remain unnoticed in various grassy areas and shrubs. The homeland of this miracle with hieroglyphs on the body is Africa, it lives in the forests and savannahs.
  4. White-lipped python (Latin Leiopython albertisi) - the reptile is relatively miniature in size, it can grow in length up to 2–2, 2 m. Looking at the appearance of this snake, it is possible to see a clear border between the neck and the head, as well as shields on the upper and lower lip, they are painted white with a black front edge. The color of the body can be very diverse, sometimes nature gives it a dark brown color, sometimes purple-brown, and there are also specimens of coal-black color with a bright bluish overflow. The natural habitat is the lands of New Guinea with low air humidity. A feature of this scaly is its dexterity and speed, this is perhaps the most nimble snake, at the sight of danger, you never know what to expect from it. She can attack very quickly, escape, hide her head under rings, or do several actions almost simultaneously.
  5. Reinhardt's earthen python (lat. Calabaria reinhardti) - a native of western Africa, found mainly in Liberia, namely in dense forests with sufficient moisture coefficient. This representative of the genus Calabaria leads an exclusively nocturnal lifestyle, going about his business only at dusk. The features of the body structure of this snake allow it to lead a burrowing existence, this is confirmed by the small size of the head, on which there are reduced shields and small visual organs. The body of this nocturnal pseudopod has the shape of a cylinder, it grows in length to 95–105 cm. The reptile, unfortunately, cannot boast of an original and memorable color, against a reddish-brown background, there are a few pale dots of pink color. The end of the head and tail is shown in black, this helps the python to survive, since in the process of digging, he keeps his head down, and the tail raises and moves it, respectively, the approaching predator is not able to make out which part of the body is in front of him.
  6. Carpet python (lat. Morelia spilota spilota). This "animal" owes its unusual name to its painted body. The dimensions of this carpet snake are approximately 180-300 cm. It is native to distant Australia, there, in the states of New South Wales and Victoria, and this miracle of nature lives, making travels through humid tropical forests and sparse woodlands and bushes. Sometimes it can be found in mountainous areas, semi-desert zones and even near settlements. This patterned python climbs trees perfectly, leads a semi-arboreal, and sometimes strictly terrestrial lifestyle. The active period usually falls for him at night, but if there are some problems with obtaining food in the territory he occupies, then it also happens that the reptile goes hunting early in the morning or even in the daytime, provided that there is no there is a terrible heat. In open nature conditions, various rodents, birds and their eggs, some mammals, and sometimes lizards and frogs are used as food.
  7. Royal python (lat. Python regius). This reptile is the most popular and sought-after python, which is kept as a pet. This is due to its relatively compact size and unpretentious disposition. The body length of an adult royal reptile ranges from 1 to 1.5 m, but despite its relatively small size, this miracle of nature amazes with the grandeur and power of its body. The wide, relatively large head is very noticeably delimited from the neck, the caudal process is short. The color of the skin of the snake deserves special attention. The ornament is formed from a wide variety of specks and lines, which can be colored in different shades of brown or in almost black tones, sometimes these figures can be drawn from each other with a light border. The projection of the abdominal cavity is white or slightly beige, occasionally small black dots may be visible. In the wild, it is distributed in the western and central part of the African continent, namely in countries such as Liberia, Ghana, Benin, as well as in Cameroon, Nigeria, Uganda and many others. By his way of life, he is a nocturnal inhabitant, while in the daytime he prefers to rest in his houses, it can be the hollows of animals, holes and just fallen leaves. Loves to swim. In the event that it is impossible to escape from any danger, the king snake has the ability to curl up into a dense round lump, hiding its head in the very center of the circles of the body and unwinding this ball, very few people can do, because these living ropes have quite tremendous strength.
  8. Round ribbon python - this is not a separate species of reptile, it is a common royal python with an exclusive color, which is characterized by a wide yellow stripe along the entire body, outlined on both sides by regular black lines.

Keeping a round python, home care

First of all, what you need to take care of before letting the snake into your home is the space in which it will live. Reptiles are usually kept in terrariums. The first step is to determine the size of the dwelling, here it is better to take, as they say, "for growth." Find out all the details about the type of python that will live with you and about the maximum parameters of his body, then you need to focus on them. After all, your pet should be comfortable enough to move around, and it is not at all good if the walls of his future house will restrict or restrict his movements. Preference should be given to the horizontal type of terrariums, since this reptile is not a special conqueror of peaks, but it will definitely take walks.

You should make sure that the python's personal "apartment" is always tightly closed, and he did not have the opportunity to independently get out on an excursion around the territory of your house. But we must not forget about the ventilation holes, they still have to be, just small in size and best of all in different places. It is also necessary to put a rather large container for water in his house, mainly the reptile will use it as a drinker, but during the molt it can dive there entirely, so the size of the container should be appropriate.

A wide variety of materials can be used as flooring, such as coconut substrate, sawdust, gravel and even the most common newspapers, but if you use sawdust, do not forget to change them regularly, they tend to rot.

It will also be good to put several shelters in his personal home, where the animal will rest. It is recommended to furnish the terrarium with various branches and snags on which your pseudopod will climb - it will be both fun and exercise for him.

  1. Temperature conditions. Since the size of the python's dwelling is quite spacious, it would be nice to divide it into two zones - hot and cool. In one corner of the terrarium, you need to install a heating device; a thermal cord is well suited as the latter. Thermal stones and incandescent lamps should never be used, they can provoke severe burns to the delicate skin of your pupil. The temperature in the warm part of the dwelling should be kept between 30 and 33 degrees during the day and around 23–26 at night. Providing your original friend with a cool zone, you will leave him to independently select the necessary conditions.
  2. Humidity. The moisture coefficient is an equally important condition for the comfortable life of a reptile. It needs to be maintained at the right level with daily spraying of the terrarium, but it is very important to remember: "Never spray on the snake itself!" This action can severely frighten your ribbon python, and as a result, lead to aggression, which will be directed directly in your direction. This is not to say that he is afraid of water, he loves to swim, but unexpected surprises are not to his liking at all.
  3. Nutrition. The multiplicity of meals is directly dependent on the age of your ribbon python. An adult must be pampered with food once every ten days, but a young snake, due to its active growth and development, must be fed at least once every five days. Chickens, small rabbits, and rats are good reptile main dishes. If you try, you can teach the python to eat pre-killed rodents.

Precautions when handling python

No matter how much they write and talk about the fact that these living beings can be kept at home, and they do not pose any danger to humans, we can say that this opinion is very abstract. A snake is a snake, and that and when it will come to her not too intellectual head at one time or another is a mystery. Therefore, you need to remember that if you plan to take your pet in your arms, make sure that there is someone else in the room who, in the event of spontaneous aggression of the reptile, can pull it away from you. And this can be done with hot water or, best of all, strong alcohol, simply pouring liquid on the python's face - he hates the smell of alcohol, so he will immediately let you go.

It is best to develop some kind of reflex in your pet: whenever you decide to take him in your arms, touch his nose with an object, it can be a stick or some kind of hook. Thus, after a few such touches, the animal will remember that it will be picked up, not fed, and it will not perceive you as a delicacy.

Buying and Price of Ribbon Round Python

Now you can buy any animal you want and you can do it in any corner of the world and the ribbon python is no exception, you just need money and desire for this. On average, such an exotic will cost you from 2,000 to 120,000 rubles, but a round ribbon reptile will cost much more - 10,000 dollars.
