For corn to be tasty, nutritious and soft, carefully consider its choice. Buy cobs with leaves (natural "packaging" for grains). They protect the ears from damage and mechanical damage. The leaves should be green. Yellow foliage indicates the degree of freshness of the vegetable. The kernels should be soft, sweet, mildew-free, milky yellow and easily detached from the cob. Another little trick, thanks to which you can recognize a young ear: the inside of the grains contains a white viscous liquid, reminiscent of milk. The bright yellow color indicates the age of the ear: the brighter it is, the older the corn. Hard and bright yellow grains become tough after boiling.

Secrets of Cooking Corn

  • Before cooking, you can soak the peeled ears from the leaves in water for a while to soften the grains.
  • Boil the corn in unsalted water as it will the salt will harden the grains. Salt the fruit either 5 minutes before cooking or while serving.
  • While cooking, add a little sugar or butter to the water. This will give the corn a delicate flavor.
  • There are recipes where the vegetable is boiled with leaves. This gives aroma and juiciness.
  • Take a sample during cooking. The corn is ready - the grain is soft, sweet and tasty.
  • Boil the cobs about the same size, otherwise they will cook unevenly. If the ears are large, cut them in half before boiling.

Young ears are boiled for no more than 20-30 minutes, ripe - 30-40 minutes, completely ripe - 2-3 hours. It is important not to overcook the corn and not to miss the right moment, otherwise the grains will begin to harden.

4. Pour potable water over the corn so that it completely covers the ears. Put it on the stove, boil it, reduce the temperature to a minimum and cook the vegetable for 15 minutes. Then season with salt and cook for another 5 minutes until tender.

Pour the finished corn with butter and start the royal meal. It is worth eating corn immediately after cooking, because after cooling, it begins to harden.

Alternative methods of cooking corn

In the microwave

Place the previously soaked ears in a plastic bag and pour in a few tablespoons of water. Tie it tightly, make several small holes to let the steam out, put it in a special dish and send it to the microwave. Cook corn at 850 kW for 15 minutes.

In the oven

Grease a deep mold with oil, lay out the cobs, pour water so that it covers half the cobs. Cover the mold with foil and place in the oven. Cooking time depends on the ripeness of the grains. Cooking corn in the oven can take from 40 minutes to 120 minutes.

In a multicooker

Put the cobs in a multicooker, fill them with water to the maximum level, cover with removed leaves, set the high pressure mode and the timer for 15 minutes.

In a double boiler

Brush the wire rack with butter and add the corn. Fill the container with water. Place the lid tightly on the steamer and cook the corn for 40 minutes.
