The need to install a plasterboard box on the ceiling, the rules for drawing up a drawing, marking, the technology for making the frame and sheathing the structure with sheets of drywall. We are waiting for the primer to dry. At the same time, we bring drywall sheets into the working room and put them on the floor for a couple of days. This is necessary in order for the material to adapt to the microclimate of the room.

It is necessary to draw up a drawing of the future box taking into account the size of the room and design preferences. If you have doubts about the size of the structure, you can draw on a scale the corner of the room where the work will take place. Next, we act in this order:

  • We draw a frame diagram and be sure to add dimensions.
  • We mark the base of the box. On it we indicate the places for attaching the hangers and the guide profile.
  • We take into account the holes for pipes or ceiling lamps in the drawing. In the finished box, you cannot make holes for the lamps at random.

It is recommended to install a GKL box 10-20 mm below the level of the false ceiling.

Another important step is the marking of the sheets of material. Mounting a plasterboard box on the ceiling, as a rule, provides for a simple design, but it is important to rationally use the material. Calculate how best to lay out the sheets so as to use a minimum of drywall.

If possible, adjust the dimensions (for example, so that the sheet can be divided exactly in half). Most likely, the design will not become less functional from this, and production waste will be much less.

At this stage, you should be especially careful, since all the strength and rigidity of the structure depends on how well the work on the installation of the frame is performed. If the structure of the box is small, then you can assemble its contour on the floor. It will be more convenient this way. In this case, the points on the ceiling should be marked with a laser level.

We carry out work in this order:

  1. We lay out the profile on the floor and fasten the surfaces along the contour with self-tapping screws. To do this, we drill holes and forget the expansion dowels in them.
  2. We transfer the structure to the ceiling. We drill the necessary holes with a puncher and forget the dowels.
  3. We cut the suspensions from the guide profile using metal scissors of the required size. Their dimensions must correspond to the dimensions of the box. When cutting, take into account that part of the profile that will bend inward.
  4. We fix the hangers with self-tapping screws on the fixed guides.
  5. We attach a guide profile to the suspensions on the bottom of the box. Pay special attention to the quality of the mountings. Avoid kinks.
  6. If spot lighting is planned, we carefully check the installation locations of the fixtures with the drawing.
  7. We cut and fix with self-tapping screws the transverse guide profiles perpendicular to the wall. The distance between them should be within 60 cm.

Be sure to double-check the evenness of the installation of the entire structure.

Before you start attaching a drywall box to the ceiling with your own hands, you should cut the sheets of gypsum board according to the dimensions of the box.

Further work is carried out according to the following scheme:

  • We begin to fix the drywall from the bottom sheet from the wall. We fix it in the corner with self-tapping screws. We screw them in, slightly deepening the caps into the material. Make sure that they do not remain on the surface. In the process of puttingty, you will have to screw them in again.
  • We fasten the next sheet with a slight shift of 1-2 cells.
  • After the bottom sheets are installed, we begin to fix the side ones.

Note! No need to press firmly on the corners of the drywall. Otherwise, they will soon crack, which will ruin the appearance of the box.

After the box is completely installed, it should be carefully primed. Try not to skip a single millimeter to enhance the adhesion of the surface.

Now you can start the seam filler procedure:

  1. We begin to putty the corners of the box. We attach metal corners to them on the putty mixture, which will guarantee the aesthetic appearance of the finished box.
  2. We carefully putty the corners so that they are not visible.
  3. We proceed to the putty of the seams and caps of the self-tapping screws. For this we use a narrow spatula.
  4. At the joints we glue self-adhesive tape or fiberglass and putty these places again until perfect smoothness is achieved.
  5. We rub the dried putty with fine-grain sandpaper.
  6. Remove dust from the surface with a dry sponge or vacuum cleaner.
  7. Re-primer the surface of the box.

After you have achieved the ideal smoothness of the box, you can start installing lighting fixtures and finishing - painting, wallpapering. Watch the video about the installation of the GKL box:
