The developers of the paleo diet argue that with such a diet, you can successfully lose weight. In doing so, they rely on scientific data. In support of their statements, they argue that nutrition, as our ancestors adhered to before the advent of agriculture, is the most natural and most suitable for humans.

The first mention of this diet dates back to 1975, when the physician Walter Vogtlin published a book called The Stone Age Diet. In this book, he said that the basis of human nutrition should be meat, as well as boiled vegetables and fruits. The author argues that man at the genetic level has not changed for 10,000 years and has remained the same hunter-gatherer. And the current food industry is created in such a way that a person consumes a large amount of processed grains, processed animal fats, meat from animals grown on cereals, sugar and salt. And in this the author sees the essence of human problems with digestion and being overweight.

But the greatest prevalence of the paleo diet was due to the publication of the book of the same name by author Lauren Cordain in 2002. The slogan of this book is: "Eat what is intended by nature …", based on which we can conclude that the author tells that our ancestors were healthy thanks to natural minimally processed live food and a natural way of life.

Important! The paleo diet is divided among experts. There is no exact evidence of what exactly and in what quantity our ancestors consumed and how this affected their health. It is believed that among the Neanderthals, food of plant origin predominated in the menu, rather than animal.

In addition to the strict dietary restrictions, there are several more principles on which the paleo diet is based:

  • Move as much as possible. Natural physical labor and running are encouraged as much as possible.
  • There is only when you feel hungry. In fact, a very small amount of food per day is enough for a person to ensure the vital activity of the body. Rebuilding your eating habits and starting to listen to your body are one of the basic principles of the diet.
  • Products for the paleo diet should be chosen only those that could theoretically be present in the diet of people of the Stone Age. The rest should be excluded. There is still a lot of controversy about the essence, dangers and benefits of the paleotic diet. Supporters assure that with such a diet, you can not only lose weight by getting rid of the fat layer, but also solve many problems with the gastrointestinal tract, strengthen the immune system and improve the condition of hair and nails.

Opponents, however, argue that the harm of the paleo diet is that an excess of meat and protein foods badly affects the heart and blood vessels, and the absence of certain types of useful foods, including complex carbohydrates, leads to a slowdown in metabolism, disruptions in the hormonal system, problems with the intestines and general health condition.
