Find out what scientists and professional athletes are hiding from you about vitamins and minerals? Truth, breaking the consciousness of a person. Almost every person since childhood has a parallel between health and vitamins. We were constantly told that by consuming vitamins, you will be healthy. Parents and the media did it. No one is going to deny the necessity and importance of these substances for the human body. With a serious deficiency, very serious diseases can begin to develop.

Surely many people know how many lives of sailors in the Middle Ages were carried away by scurvy. Today, there are no problems with vitamin C, namely, the deficiency of this substance causes this disease. If you cannot consume natural sources of the substance in the required amount, then it is enough to buy ascorbic acid at the pharmacy and there will be no problems. Today we will look at the other side of vitamins and minerals in bodybuilding, namely the effectiveness of vitamin and mineral complexes.

How effective are vitamin complexes

Scientists began to actively research vitamins back in the thirties of the twentieth century. The main task facing scientists at that time was to obtain artificial vitamins. Today it is a fairly profitable part of the pharmacology industry and we are already sure that it is impossible to do without vitamin and mineral complexes.

According to statistics, in Europe alone, about one hundred million dollars are spent every year on the purchase of these drugs. For example, in the United States, you can find over three and a half thousand nutritional supplements containing minerals and vitamins on sale. One in seven of a dozen Americans takes a vitamin periodically, and one in four people in the United States does it all the time. In our country, there are no such statistics, but it can be assumed that our fellow citizens take vitamins very actively.

Today, scientists know 13 vitamins and 10 more vitamin-like substances. In addition, some vitamins are a group that contains a large amount of substances. For example, vitamin P in practice turned out to be a whole family of similar substances, the number of which reaches 150. Today, there are more and more discussions about the bioavailability of synthetic vitamins and the appropriateness of their use. As is always the case in such disputes, their participants adhere to directly opposite opinions. However, one should not be so categorical in these statements, and most likely the truth is in the middle.

Vitamin C can be used as confirmation that synthetic vitamins have a lower biological activity in comparison with natural substances. Ascorbic acid, which can be purchased in a pharmacy, is only one fragment of vitamin C. A natural substance in its composition also contains other compounds such as factor K or tyrosinase. However, today pharmaceutical companies do not know how to synthesize all the necessary substances, and besides, when creating a full-fledged complex of vitamin C, its cost will significantly increase. The situation is similar with, say, vitamin E. A synthetic substance is only one of eight isomers. At the same time, the use of synthetic vitamins gives very good results in practice. This allows us to say that at least some vitamins are able to be absorbed well and can eliminate the deficiency of substances in the body.

Today multivitamin complexes are becoming more and more popular. They contain at least two vitamins, but most often there are much more of them. Now there is a fierce battle on the market among manufacturers for customers. After reading the labels on the boxes of these complexes, we learn about the almost perfect balance. However, it should be remembered that vitamins also enter the body with food, and this fact negates the importance of the balance that pharmacological companies are talking about.

It is practically impossible to calculate the amount of minerals and vitamins entering the body. We will always receive only averaged values, since different varieties of the same fruit contain different amounts of vitamins. Moreover, their content is also influenced by the region of growth of these fruits.

Also, the dosages of vitamins that are recommended by health organizations should not be considered ideal. Each nationality needs a specific composition of vitamins and minerals. For example, today scientists are very concerned about the extinction of peoples living in the northern regions of the planet.

One of the reasons for this was the change in their way of life. More and more carbohydrates are found in their diet, and the body is not adapted to process such an amount of this nutrient. As a result, metabolism is disrupted and the development of various diseases becomes a consequence of this.

If you take any person who constantly uses mineral and vitamin complexes, then the following situation is possible. On average, one complex contains from 10 to 15 elements. In this person, some of the vitamins are deficient, while the concentration of others is within the normal range. When using a complex of vitamins, the benefits will be obtained only from those substances that are currently in short supply. All other vitamins that make up the complex can provoke hypovitaminosis.

The situation is similar with minerals. For the body, a bad factor is not only a deficiency of any substance, but also an excess of it. For example, exceeding the norm of molybdenum can cause the development of urolithiasis, and a high magnesium content will slow down the rhythm of the heart.

With regard to athletes, the situation looks more attractive, since the consumption of all nutrients in their body is significantly higher in comparison with an ordinary person. However, the choice of vitamin and mineral complexes should be approached competently so that their use is useful.
