The disadvantages of liquid wallpaper include the following characteristics:

  • Low moisture resistance … If they get dirty, then washing them with a damp cloth will not work - you will have to cut out a piece. For the same reason, do not use liquid wallpaper indoors, where a direct stream of water can hit them.

Before applying liquid wallpaper to the ceiling, you need to prepare it.

First, we get rid of the old finishing layer:

  1. If the ceiling has been whitewashed with chalk or lime, then wash it off with a special solution.
  2. If roll wallpaper was glued, then remove it with a sharp spatula, after wetting it with warm water.
  3. It will be more difficult to dismantle ceramic tiles. However, this must be done - we remove the tiles mechanically.
  4. We use a special remover to remove the paint.
  5. We remove various stains, be it grease, soot, rust, mildew and mold, with primers and other compounds.

Next, we prime and level the ceiling. We putty all chips, cracks and potholes. If this is not done, then liquid wallpaper will have to be applied in two layers. This is a cost overrun and expensive.

You also need to apply a primer to the putty layer, after which you can start finishing. Note that the use of ST-17 is not recommended. This can cause yellowness to appear.

There are several types of liquid wallpaper:

  • Silk … UV resistant. Do not fade. They are relatively expensive. Such wallpaper is most often used to decorate the ceiling in bedrooms and living rooms.
  • Pulp and silk … They do not fade, retain their aesthetic appearance for a long time. Suitable for bedrooms and children.
  • Cellulose … Less durable. Burn out relatively quickly. Due to its decorative features, it is most often used in bathrooms and corridors. They are distinguished by their low cost.

Having decided on the type of material with which you will carry out the finishing of the ceiling, you need to decide in what form to take the mixture. Liquid wallpaper is made in the form:

  1. Ready mix … It is sold in plastic containers and is ready to use. It is more expensive than other varieties.
  2. Dry powder … It already includes texturing additives and dyes, and therefore is simply diluted with water in the proportions indicated in the instructions.
  3. Raw materials without additives … It is a dry powder without pigment and texturing additives. All fillings must be purchased separately. This is the cheapest variety.

The calculation of the material is carried out according to the principle: 1 kilogram - for 5 square meters.

In addition to the wallpaper itself, we need a spatula, rollers and brushes.
