Sensitive facial skin is not at all its type, but a temporary or permanent condition, which leads to improper care, various health problems and many other reasons. It significantly spoils the appearance of a person, and in some cases worsens the quality of life. This phenomenon is widespread mainly among people with oily skin.

What does sensitive facial skin look like?

With such a problem, she reacts sharply to any external stimulus - low air temperature, cold water, etc. Usually the skin is very dry, lifeless, and pale. Often on it you can see peeling particles and capillaries visible through the tissue. Both individual zones and the entire surface can be affected.

Often in people with this type of skin on the wings of the nose, the skin becomes rough, tough, the same can occur on the forehead and around the lips. But the most vulnerable part is the area near the eyes, where bags, red spots, bruises, pigmentation are quite often observed. All this is sometimes also complemented by acne, blackheads, acne. One of the signs of dry and sensitive skin of the face are local foci of inflammation and a pronounced wrinkled pattern. If it is oily, then in addition to this, an ugly shine resulting from a malfunction of the sebaceous glands may disturb. Outwardly, she also often looks tight due to dehydration. Unlike usual allergies, with increased skin sensitivity, a reaction to contact with an irritant occurs instantly, and not after 2-3 hours. The hardest thing is in winter, in subzero temperatures, and in summer, when the air humidity is low.

The main causes of facial skin sensitivity

Chemical peels as a cause of skin sensitivity

This phenomenon has nothing to do with rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, urticaria and other dermatological pathologies. It is not a disease as such, it is only a consequence of an improper lifestyle and a signal about possible inflammatory processes taking place inside the body. Girls, especially expectant mothers, are more susceptible to this problem.

Among the external factors are the following:

  • Emotional surge … Here we mean not only negative, but also positive impressions. In this case, the blood rushes to the face sharply, which causes skin irritation. But this is rather a predisposing factor, and not the reason for her unusual sensitivity. Therefore, most often, after improving the condition, it goes away on its own, without outside help.
  • Taking medication … First of all, we are talking about various antibiotics that can cause itching. These are penicillins, aminoglycosides, macrolides, polymyxins. Anyone who undergoes treatment with these drugs more often than 2-3 times a year can suffer from them.
  • Intoxication of the body … The situation is aggravated by acute poisoning by any food, especially meat and mushrooms. The appearance is also negatively affected by the pollution of the blood with toxins due to unhealthy diet with a large amount of fried, sweet, starchy foods.
  • Systemic disorders … These include endocrine and immune, after eliminating the malfunction of which the situation usually stabilizes on its own. Most often, such processes occur in people over 50 years old.
  • Diseases of the internal organs … The greatest damage is caused by gastritis, biliary dyskinesia, colitis, since against their background the body is polluted with toxins. As a result, redness, irritation and severe itching occurs on the skin of the face. Achieving remission reduces their manifestations.

Of the less serious diseases, it is necessary to note a decrease or increase in the acidity level above 5.5 pH. It is harmful in itself, since it leads to looseness of the epidermis, and together with the disruption of the sweat glands, as a result of which the skin remains defenseless against the attacks of microbes, it is also twice as dangerous.

Among the external factors, it is customary to distinguish:

  1. Aggressive beauty treatments … The most dangerous here are fruit peels with acids, which "eat away" the epidermis and dissolve its protective film from harmful bacteria. As a result, they penetrate the pores without any special obstacles and, actively acting in deep layers or on the surface, irritate the skin.
  2. Substandard face care products … Frequent use of creams, lotions, masks, ointments containing artificial colors, parabens, fragrances, as well as aggressive cosmetic procedures, destroys the protective film on the face. As a result, it becomes more susceptible to the sun, wind, low temperatures.
  3. Bad makeup … An increase in skin sensitivity threatens those who abuse powder, blush, tonal base, correctors, thus trying to hide blackheads, acne and other defects. In this case, the pores become clogged, the water-salt balance is disturbed and irritation appears.
  4. Ignoring the rules of personal hygiene … This applies to those who think that washing in the morning is completely unnecessary, and if they perform such a simple procedure, then without using soap. It must be applied, and not any, but antibacterial. Also, a huge role is played by the lack of facial cleansing gels and the habit of constantly touching it with your hands, especially dirty ones. Trouble can also await those who bite their lips and bite their nails.
  5. Sunbathing abuse … This applies to those who spend a lot of time on the beach or in the solarium. The risk is also increased by the fact that a person does not use special protective equipment that reduces the negative effects of UV radiation.

The risk group includes people with light skin, those with dark and black ones suffer from this less often. It can be either dry or oily, but normal or at least combined is more an exception to the rule than a norm. The face is susceptible to increased skin sensitivity more than other parts of the body due to the fact that, regardless of the season, it is under the direct influence of negative environmental factors. Of great importance is its vulnerability to dangerous bacteria through wounds that form at the site of acne. Also, the state of affairs can worsen the disruption of the sebaceous glands, because they are in large numbers on the face. A person's predisposition to increased skin sensitivity, which is usually inherited from the mother, should not be ruled out.

Features of care for sensitive skin

The main rule is to thoroughly wash your face in the morning with warm spring or mineral water. Pipeline, and even more so chlorinated, is not at all suitable for this, since it contains hard particles that irritate the skin. After it dries, it should be treated with an alcohol-free toner or lotion. Then you can apply a moisturizer or a soothing cream. Use cleansing milk to rinse off makeup.
